geforce2 MX or geforce256 DDR........

well, i was just thinking about the geforce2 MX in games like quake3. In 1280*1024*32 res. isn't the card way to poor then, or...And what about the upcoming games which will demand more power. wouldn't it be too bad to buy a card that even now is pretty poor in 1280*1024*32 res?? BTW im living in Norway and i would have to pay about $400 for a Geforce2 gts with TV-out, so that is a bit over my reach...

I can get an ASUS 7100/T geforce2 MX with 32 mb SDR w/tv-out for $220 here in Norway, and an ASUS 6800 geforce256 w/32 MB DDR RAM and tv-out for about $300. So which should i go for????

ASUS 6800 really kicks with my Trinitron monitor... I play UT -
Only caveat... use the NVIDIA drivers.

GET the MX. It's newer, cheaper, uses less power, and more compatible with an AMD system. Asus is a good company, and they got a good review. Do it.

I just bought a Leadtek 256 DDR with tv out (version 2) for 120 bucks. Did I make a mistake? I dont think so.

so two votes for geforce256 DDR then...
is the geforce2 MX too slow on 1280*1024*32 res???
what do u think has the most bang for the buck (plz compare my norwegian prices)??

At 1280x1024 the GF2MX will hurt performance, at that point you have become almost completely memory bandwidth limited, so the GF256 DDR will go faster.

As lower resolutions the GeForce2MX will be faster, and it has newer features and uses less power. And at say 800x600x32 and 1024x768x16 the GF2MX is probably faster, I think the crossover point is about 1024x768x32.

The GF2MX is probably the best bang for the buck of any video card there is. And I would personally go with that.

But if you really have your heart set on 1280 then you should get the DDR.

You may want to consider a Radeon. I'm just about to pick one up from Best Buy for $160 after a $30 rebate. Although it is a few $ more than the MX, I think its worth it in the long run for the DDR and additional features that the Radeon offers.

Fry's electronics has the 32mb DDR for $149 after their $50 rebate! 🙂

Anyway, its worth it to spend the extra $ in this case. Besides, you can just drive to a Best Buy and have it today! Thats what I am doing! 🙂

Wow, after seeing those benchmarks I start to thinking it does not matter what card you get.

66 fps at 1600 1200 is the slowest (Geforce 2 mx), and who can't live with that. 🙂

Then again, I play in 16 bit cuz I cant tell the differnce...is there something wrong with me? 🙁

go with the geforce ddr and try to get a 3D Prophet DDR-DVI made by guillemot. The 3d prophet is amongst the best of the geforce user companies. I have a 3d prophet overclocked to 155 core clock and 360 ram clock(that's in ddr terms). This baby shells out scores of the low 6000 points in 3dmark2000! That is just a 1000 give or take a little different from my friends geforce gts! Im loving this card.

with a good graphics card, you will notice a difference between 32 and 16 bit. BIG!

I just enjoy playing in 1152x864 at high everything on 32 bit in unreal tournament. I would try higher resolutions but my crappy monitor cant go higher than this! It kind of sucks when the monitor is the bottleneck of your system.

An overclocked geforce 2 will beat a geforce DDR. My Geforce 2 MX overclocked to 220/222 gets me more FPS at any resolution except 1600x1200 32bpp when the memory speed starts to take over.

Just got back from Best Buy...

I got the Radeon 32mb DDR for $149!! The rebate was for $50 instead of the $30 that I thought! Awesome deal...

Surely go for DDR. Simply overclock its memory to 333MHz (almost 100% will do) then 90% of times it'd be as fast as a GF2 GTS!!!

DDR totally smokes MX in any games at resolutions above 640x480x16. If money isn't a consideration, MX simply SUCKS.
