Okay before I begin bare with me as I give you details because it is my video card but the CPU is a friend of mines so I may not have all the information that you would be looking for. The video card is a Leadtek 32mb Geforce 2 pro and its pratically brandnew but since I just bought a Geforce 3 I decided to let my friend use it since he is currently in the market for one. We installed the video card as well as upgraded to DirectX 8.0, I installed the driver etc..... Okay windows run great no flaws or anything BUT when he tries to go and play Quake 3 or Counter Strike the game locks up before he can even begin to play. The wierd thing is we changed the video mode in Counterstike to Software and this allows him to play. But for some odd reason Open GL isnt playable and since Quake 3 is only openGL the game isnt allowing him to play at all as well as CS if you change the video mode to Open GL. The best information I can give you is that his motherboard is a made Azza I believe and its a Pentium 3 system, 256mb ram, 40 gig hard drive. Prior to this he had a 8mb ATI rage video card and he could play both games in open GL at a really low resolution, it was crappy frame rates but at least he was playin. ITs been 4 days of trouble shooting and we really need some advice Thanks Guys:(

Did you remove the previous ATi drivers correctly/all the way? In other words, before removing the ATi card, did you uninstall the drivers and set the display adapter to Standard VGA adapter, then reboot before installing the GeForce?

ehm powersupply .. I had lockups with my Voodoo 3 before in ALL 3D stuff exept for software this was related to the PSU not being capable of delivering enough power to the card)

we need some more info tho ... PSU brand of 3Dcard eventual other anomalies overclockings, etc ...

You haven't made it clear if D3D works ok as that is an option for CS to use.

Anyway, try lowering the AGP speed. Sometimes some graphics cards and motherboards just dont get along so shifting down speed or turning off AGP fast writes or AGP sidebanding can help.

Of course it costs you a small amount of speed, but it can get some cards working ok.
