Geforce Ti 4200 driver issue

A friend was upgrading his system with this videocard and downloaded the latest XP drivers from nvidia (40meg+). For some reason after install and reboot, then windows recognize standard VGA ---> Geforce Ti 4200, the system would hang. Boot into safe mode, removed driver, then reboot again. It would get into windows with new hardware found dialogue box. Clicked cancel so it would choose standard VGA. After another 20 sec windows would automatically find the Geforce Ti 4200 on its own and the system freezes again.

1. Is there an older driver that he we can find elsewhere? Card manufacturer is PNY Verto. The MB he's using support 8x AGP.

2. How do you remove residue of the fvcked-up driver we just installed? Windows keep finding it.

1. goto nvidia.com, there is a link for archived drivers. here
2. you don't have to..

Without removing the other driver, the system will keep on locking up. You can't update the driver via safe mode, AFAIK.

in safemode, system, hardware, device manager, display adaptor, right click, choose "uninstall" on each driver.

Install the new driver in safe mode, then reboot. When window starts up, it should ask you for driver.
