GeForce SDR or GeForce 2 MX ?

The price on the SDR's are pretty low nowadays (~$125). I have a Voodoo 3 on a c2@896mhz right now and playing some games at 1280x1024 can be a tad slow.

Most benchmarks show the SDR and MX neck to neck. So what benefits does the MX have ? More overclockability, smaller die size, etc ?. Trying to stay under $150 for this upgrade.

Also how is the 2D quality on the Nvidia boards vs my Voodoo 3, which produces very nice text on my PF790.

geforce 2 mx. uses less power... and also it is an overclocking beast! it comes with no heatsink... mwhahahaha time to attach a gw fop32 to it! overclock the p00p outa it. then add some nice alpha ram heatsinks... mahahahahha. i bet i could get that sucka up to say.... 215 core and 210 ram or so... almost preforms as good as the geforce ddr.

Cost is one advantage, but the main advantage as I see it is the power consumption at only 4 watts versus 16-18 watts for SDR.

This means that people stuck with poorly designed/older motherboards such as the LX's and The ALI Alladin's should be able to use this card with no trouble.

It's also going to be a very strong partner for a 600mhz Duron in the value pc stakes.

get the mx and oc the hell outta it.

If you overclock it, it beats SDR in everything

Good point Greg. Wow didn't know there power consumption's were so different. Even non-oc'd the Mx 2 seems to be about 10% ahead in most bench's.

However I guess if I want the MX 2 I'll have to wait at least 2 months before stores have them in stock ?

Last I heard you should be able to buy MX cards at the end of this month.

As others have posted, the first MX cards could appear as early as July 10.

The MX has the improved GTS GPU chip. That plus lower power consumption means this is the chip to get vs. the SDR GF1.
