I bought this card at a computer show to put on my moms computer and when I booted with it the text didn't look as bright and after that the graphics looked smeared horizontally when I tried the pull the card out I was literally bured buy the heat sink. It should not have gotten that hot especially with the fan working. Whats wrong??

First off it should have a working fan on it. The fan may be old and not spinning as fast as it should. Also, are you trying to overclock it? If so, I would not be too agressive, because the early Geforce's were known to get hot.

It sounds as though there may be some old driver info in the registry causing the poor graphics. What was previously in there?

ALso, what card are u comparing the 2d to? If ur comparing the 2d on the GeForce to a Matrox of ATI, dont be suprised the 2d isn't as shapr because they used reallly bad filters for those cards, and the 2d usually was pretty sh*t.

That doesn't sound normal. Do you have any idea what part of the board was actually getting hot? The GPU or RAM? Also, as has been said before, the original GeForce boards had crappy 2D.

it was the Gpu heatsink that was hot. When I say smeared I mean smeared! Kinda like rubbing a greasy finger on a magazine page. I'm not overclocking it. You can tell something's not right when you are in the post test. Still might be driver problems tho. I did have a tnt2 ultra in there. Could it be a super socket 7 problem??
