Lengthy post re: video glitches/artifacts - pweez hewp! 😕
I have a (Powergene) Geforce Pro 2 GTS 64M vid card, and it has served me quite well for about a year and a half now. As of a month ago, I've started to have geometry problems getting worse and worse in UT2K3 and NWN [polygons losing their shape; walls collapsing across rooms, etc - UT2K3 is now unplayable due to this] as well as snow/static in Warcraft III (but no polygon issues), Diablo II, even in CounterStrike.
So, simple solution, get new video drivers - well, teh new (45.23) Detonator drivers simply cause even more problems with DirectX conflicts and such. So, now I sit w/ teh Detonator drivers 43.45v and DirectX9.0b in, and my problem still exists; in fact, it's getting worse.
Now I'm convinced it's hardware; fairly sure it's the card itself... I've reseated it in it's comfy AGP slot, I've cleaned it off and teh fan is working fine . . . and it's still all freaky. So . . . I'm looking to get a new vidcard.
Herein lies the REAL problem - .unless I'm wrong and it's something I haven't tried yet. - what card to get?
I'm a little foggy on teh AGP2.0/3.0 4X/8X shizzle, and my mobo is Gigabyte's GA-6vx7-4x, which "Supports 4X mode & AGP 2.0 Complaint". Ok - I think I get that much, but now when I go to checkout teh Radeon 9600pro, specs call it AGP 8X - yet in Lithium381's post he sez he's running it @ 4X!?
(RADEON 9600 PRO, 128MB DDR AGP 8x ? )
So, with that mobo, would Radeon 9600pro be a worthy investment? I'm planning on upgrading my whole system come spring, but with this vid card hardware failure, I'm getting stuck into a vid card early - will the 9600 also be worthy of my new rig come April?
Thanks for teh read, and thanks in advance, all. =]
