Hi,

Does anyone have any information on how these two cards compare? I currently have a Matrox G200 and want something with comparable image quality as well as some need boost in D3D/OpenGL performance.

Thanks

there are numerouse comparisons on the web, read those reviews.

Personally i suggest Radeon, but seems like they are cutting DDR and u probably can't get them now ( i have 32mb DDR) and im not sure about SDR. however image quality would be still much better on Radeon.

just got a radeon, still waiting to hook it up I am excited. If you still can and your tunning win 98/se I would highly suggest the radeon I have done alot of reserarch on this and it was the best option for me (c450a wanting to run 1024x768 @ 32) and can only be better if you have a faster cpu.

Don't get me wrong the MX is an excellent card for the money, but if you can still get a ddr fir the "same" money you tell me which the better deal is, also active cooling is a bonus.

I got mine from buy.com with a coupon for 151 shippd but since they are having free shipping you can get it for less than that now

Also, you have to take into account the MX DDR is really no different than the MX SDR in overall speed. I've been buying both Nvidia and ATI for a long time, and just bought a AIW Radeon, instead of an MX.

I had a GF2 MX up until about a week ago, and just replaced it with a
Radeon 32DDR. Normally, I wouldn't have made the jump with so little difference
between the cards, but there were extenuating circumstances...

As to which card is better, that's a tough call. The MX is a better
deal. The Radeon is a better card.

Image quality is a little better on the Radeon. It is somewhat faster
if you play at 32 bit color and higher resolutions.

I guess it comes down to money. If you can get them for the same price,
get the Radeon, hands down. But if money is tight, the MX is not a bad way to
go at all... I really liked mine.

You'll get a great card either way.

Thanks for the all the advice. I am definitely leaning towards the Radeon. I do want to see how the whole MX SDR vs MX DDR comparison plays out. I know that the DDR is only 64 bit vs 128 bit for the SDR but I am interested in finding out if the DDR is just as fast or faster than the SDR. Also, buy.com has the Annilator 2 MX DDR for $108 minus $20 off $100 brings it down to $88 shipped. So I am quite tempted.

Thanks again.

The Radeon DDR would definately be faster. The Radeon SDR is even faster than the MX a higher resolutions and especially 32bit color. The MX DDR is no faster than the MX SDR, and possibly slower. I believe it is cheaper to make so that's why companies are making those.

And more than anything ,since DDR is the buzz, it helps to have a card box stating DDR Memory, of course not saying (slower 64-bit DDR Memory)

Petey00, it'll help if u tell us what system it's going into, and what functions you are looking for. Are u looking for just games? or are u looking to use it for DVD and maybe photoshop or somthing? If your procressor is fast 700 or higher, u'll get more return with Radeon where as it has similar performance with MX on slower cpu. goto FiringSquad and look at their video card shootout on the one they match MX and Radeon and others. Ive found that Radeon will perform better for me when i upgrade CPU later (more then MX with faster cpu)and with better drivers (this driver is based on Rage chipset?) it's performance should be much better. Whereas MX had thier drivers tweaked for long time, so i dont think it can improve much on speed. but tell us the info.

Thanks MustangSVT

I am not a hard core gamer although I do enjoy my weekly helpings of UT and some D3D games. I am also a big fan of image quality. I guess I am looking for something with the same image quality as my good old Matrox G200 but a lot better 3D performance. I currenlty have a Celeron II 533/824, 192 Megs of Ram, 30 Gig 7200 RPM Drive.

alright, i dont' know if any of you guys managed to see my previous topic about having problems with the asus geforce2 mx running on my athlon800/asus a7v, but i'm still having problems with lock up after a few minutes of play. no overclocking anywhere. i'm running win2k so i haven't tried 98, but i was so pissed i went and got the radeon 32 ddr. so i'll have both of them ... ack. i'll see which one works for me and sell the one left over on eb*y. can anyone give any suggestions on how to get my damn card working?!
