Geforce MX 4000 problems

I have 98 and a BFG Geforce mx 4000. It keeps making my monitor go in and out when I do certain tasks. For instance, just clicking on the nvidia icon in the taskbar makes the monitor "reinitialize" or something where it fades off then on real fast. Also, opening some programs like AIM and email the monitor switches off then on real fast. Any ideas?
