Geforce GTX285

Well I just won a GTX285 and was wondering how much power one takes up? I currently have a 9800GT and the PSU seems fine for it but the 285 seems to be a lot more powerful.

I was just wondering if I should be fine running on this PSU.

Its not the best, but it has been running fine with everything listed below.

AMD Athlon X2 5800+ Brisbane
2048mb Crucial PC6400
3 Hard Drives
Geforce 9800GT (soon to be 285)
DVD Burner

Or would it be better to invest in a new PSU? This one is only 4 months old, but better safe than sorry.

That will be plenty for the 285 with your current setup. The 285 actually uses less power at idle that the 9800 seres (just barely) but does use more at load.

The 280 needs 352W at full load. The 285 is less than that. The article also shows how much the other components are likely to draw so you can make an estimate for your total.

That can't be just the video card...that has to be full system power.

You're right, 248W is the 280. Sorry I looked up the wrong chart.

Even 248w seems too high. Aircooling wouldn't be sufficient if a card was consuming that much power.
I should introduce you to my GTX 295 😛

Ah yes, I forgot about that. I've read it draws more than it's rated TDP as does the 4870x2.

Here's a good link showing power draw for a bunch of cards:

GTX285 draws 214w apparently.

Thanks for the link. It seems that I should have a little headroom even with the 285 if I wasnted to add 1 more HDD then.

God, I cant wait until I get this card. I am pumped!
