I'm looking at 2 similar Asus laptops with 1080p resolution and one has a 960M vidcard (but with HDD drive) and the other only a 950M card but with an SSD drive.

Which one should i take? When would i notice a difference in performance between a 950M and 960M card? Is 950M good enough for a 1080p screen.

Finally, will the 960M run hotter then the 950 which might make the fans work harder. I believe TDP is 60W vs 50W vs 33W for the 940M. Does the power usage remain lower when just browsing?

Thanks for all good feedback! :)

What is the laptop to be used for? For gaming, you need to know which kind of memory the 950M has. It has the same number of shaders as the 960M and is clocked slightly lower. But some models of the 950m have slower DDR3 and some have GDDR5. As far as I know all 960M have GDDR5. A 950M with GDDR5 will be only slightly slower than the 960M, while the model with DDR3 will be about 15% slower according to notebookcheck.net, but I think it could be even more that that. For non gaming, either will be more than enough. My grandson has a laptop with the 960M, and he likes it a lot. It should play any game at 1080p, with medium to low settings on demanding games.

Another factor, probably more important (since the gpus are fairly comparable) is the cpu. If one has a quad mobile i7 (most 960M models do) it will be a lot more powerful than a dual core, should the other laptop have that.
