Thinking of buying one is it a waste of money ? I want to play at 2560 x 1600 resolution with ultra high detail setting in all games with maximum AA and AF.

Battlefield 3, Witcher 2, Skyrim, Left 4 Dead 2, Crysis 2, and plenty more.

Max AA and AF? Not always possible with playable FPS. Here's some benchmarks to help you decide. Remember these are averages so while you might think to yourself "60fps is good" I wonder what the minimums are and if they dip low it's unplayable for me. These are with 4xAA and 8x or more would only be more demanding and lower fps even more. Remember it's still a 2GB card. You don't get 2GB+2GB for a total of 4GB Vram. Do remember the GTX690 is basically two GTX 670s on a single PCB. A GTX670 sells for around $400. You can save yourself around $200 by grabbing two GTX 670 cards and running them in SLI. I think the GTX 690 comes with bragging rights and looks really wicked though. For the price, I'll take my two overclocked GTX 670s which actually beat a GTX 690. Of course you can overclock a 690 too but the max power target is a modest +35 which means you won't see boost clocks as high as a pair of GTX 670s even clocked to the same levels. With my GTX 670 cards I can go to +145 and if I clock my cards to 1050 and a GTX 690 to 1100 my boost will still likely be higher even with a lower OC. Having said all that I would trade my two GTX 670s for a GTX 690 if given the option. It would simplify my setup in terms of cable management and give me more room inside the case overall. Like I said, the GTX 690 really looks cool IMO. I like the silver shroud. I just would never pay more than what it costs to have two GTX 670s.

So here are the numbers for the GTX 690 and just remember that it's $800 for 2x GTX 670s and $1000 for a GTX 690.

Go for 2 custom cooled GTX 670's. MSI GTX 670 PE, ASUS GTX 670 DC II, Gigabyte Windforce GTX 670 3x or EVGA GTX 670 FTW if you want hot air exchausted out the back.

I think you'd be good. I run 680 SLI overclocked which I think is pretty much the same as an overclocked 690 and run all those games maxed at that resolution.

Battlfield 3 I run completely maxed in multiplayer and only dip below 60FPS when there is an explosion close to my vicinity (drops to 45FPS momentarily)

Crysis 2 I run maxed and I don't believe it ever drops below 60.

L4D2, I think a 7850 could max this game @ 1600P.

Skyrim I run maxed with a bunch of hi res textures and 8xMSAA 8xSGSSAA. Game is generally locked at 60fps other than in areas with excessive foliage. If you dropped that to 4xmssa 4xsgssa it doesn't dip below.

The only game I find this setup weak in is the original Crysis/Warhead. Lots of dips to the 40s in that game.

Waste of $$, I have to recommend as others suggested, get 2 custom 670s and overclock it. Or even cheaper, 2 custom 7950 and overclock those.
