Hi guys,
I'm having a couple computers built for my wife and I. We're both gamers. The boutique I'm dealing with told us that our GTX 590s are on back order, and they're waiting on a shipment so our builds are on hold. I immediately began a search on the web, to see if I could purchase the cards myself and to get a little back ground. I've noticed not many boutiques or even stores like New Egg are offering the card at all. Should I be looking at something else? Is Nvidia about to release a new card? Why are the 590s so hard to find?

Thanks for your help.

If you can't find GTX590 you could try to get 6990, those cards are comparable performance-wise. BTW. I think 7970 would be a better choice, at stock it is slower, but if you're lucky and get a good sample after OC it will catch up to those dual-gpu cards. Realistically you're probably going to end up with slightly less raw power but none of the drawbacks of SLI/Crossfire.

2x7970s (one for each computer) would be better, unless you really need NV (3Dvision, CUDA). If thats the case, just grab 2x (2xGTX 570) for each build.

I'd rather go GTX560Ti/570 SLI or 6990/6950Xfire than a GTX590 IF I wanted multi-GPU.

TBH, I personally think a single fast card would be better. GTX580/7950 or top of the heap 7970.

nah, just get HD 7970, GTX 590 is not worth it anymore now (because of the heat and power consumption). and after the fack that GTX 590 have weak VRM

Cool, switched to a couple HD 7970s. They're on back order also, but at least they're less expensive.
Thanks for the info guys.

OP - how long has your build been on back-order? If it has been more than a month, I would say cancel and re-order in April with a new IB CPU...

That's probably a good decision.

The GTX 600 Kepler series isn't rumored to come out until sometime in March at the earliest, and that's only a midrange GTX 670 part. (although its suppose to perform between Radeon HD 7950 and 7970).

It's not supposed to be until Q3 or Q4 2012 before the high end GTX 680 and 690 parts are available.

There are a few 590's on fleabay going for quite a pretty penny.

Just wanted to pop in here and say I cancelled with that boutique and went back to what I'm comfortable with, that being build my own. Happy to say my wife and I are now proud owners of systems we built ourselves. Thanks for the input in this thread.
