GeForce GTX 295 to be Nvidia's next dual-GPU card?

With a 55nm shrink of Nvidia's GT200 graphics processor looming, the rumor mill has been grinding away about future Nvidia dual-GPU cards. Today, Expreview has posted a number of details about such a card, which Nvidia will supposedly brand GeForce GTX 295.

This GeForce GTX 295 is rumored to have dual 55nm GT200 GPUs each with 240 stream processors, 448-bit memory interfaces, and 896MB of GDDR3 memory riding shotgun. That'll translate into a total of 480 SPs, 1792MB of RAM, and a 289W power envelope for the whole shebang. Expreview doesn't mention clock speeds, though, so it's hard to say how this card will compare to today's SLI and CrossFire configurations.

If this report is accurate, Nvidia will introduce the GeForce GTX 295 on the first day of the Consumer Electronics Show next year?that's January 8. Expreview also predicted recently that 55nm derivatives of the GeForce GTX 260 and 280 will materialize that same month.

Unless you're under NDA, at this point this can only be a guess.

Pre-launch info on parts published on the web is a tricky thing, I've seen it both 100% accurate and 100% wrong over the years. (The Inquirer has a pretty hit or miss track record on pre-NDA info, for example)

My only advice is this:
People considering a dual GPU solution like the 9800GX2 or 7950GX2 might want to hold off.
