Just thought I should relive this issue. GeForce GTX 285 with shimmering textures. Drivers 285.96. This issue is a bit annoying and affect the game immersion. I hope NVIDIA fixes this soon. I am not sure if it is due to the less-than-perfect Anisotropic Filtering compared to ATI/AMD radeon 5870 or just a problem in the drivers.

Accoring to several forum posts this seems like an old nvidia problem.

- More to the point, we have yet to find a game where the difference between AMD and NVIDIA’s AF modes have been noticeable; so technically AMD’s AF modes are better, but it’s not enough that it makes a practical difference

Maybe he didn't check how it looked while moving around?

It shouldn't look like that. Are you sure you have it in HQ mode with the filtering optimizations turned off? My GTX 260's texture filtering looks better than my brother's 5770 IMO.

Do you actually have a GTX285, or are you just bringing this up for no reason?

Hmm, to be honest, I get the same on my HD5850 in DAO if I use the in-game AA... But I just turn on SSAAx4 in CCC and the problem is solved. I thought that it was just MSAA that was doing it (as in not the best AA hence not the best results).

Its the same guy who posted the video on YouTube.

Having said that, the thread you posted hasn't had a new post in 6 years so it may or may not be relevant.

I assume you included System Shock 2 as a comparison for older DirectX games? I played this game over 10 years ago on a Rendition Verite 2200 and rememeber seeing the same thing.

I think the shimmering may have alot to do with how a game is programmed as well as just the movement. If you are stationary there is no "shimmering".

Is this really NOT a problem on ATI Radeon cards?

Shimmering is the flickering that you can see at the floor at a certain distance, to see that, you must put the clip at 720P or better.
