Lol, 10.1 is hardly "amazing stuff". It's a few tweaks for more image quality control, and support for parallel cube mapping. All it can really do for a game is improve the frame rate a bit.

Absolutely correct! I was sarcastic. Dx 10.1 is nothing really, just like PhysX.

What you've said here it's like: " I'm a Nvidia fanboy! Just let me be." 😉

Why does appreciating good software make me a Nvidia fanboy? PhysX is Ageia, Nvidia merely owns it now. You can deny the quality of the engine all you want due to your own fanboyism, doesn't change the fact that it's good.

Yes, of course, you are so right. This stupid debate has been made countless times by now, so I ain't gonna make it again.

The thing that you're skipping here is that PhysX has great potential, but it isn't fully implemented in the current supported games. I'm sure that in the future, it will be great, but right now it isn't enough to make one buy a Nvidia card over an Ati card which is just as fast, but it lacks PhysX.

Here's how I see it though.

Since the price/performance ratio is even between them. Then you need something to sway you towards one or the other. And Nvidia has just that. CUDA, PhysX, and their 3D glasses thing. Sure, those things may not be used by every developer, but it's used enough for it to be a plus. Thus making the Nvidia card a better choice in this scenario 😛.

Since the ATi card has dx 10.1 ( amazing stuff, there is so much you can do with it, just like PhysX ) and the price is lower, and, I don't give a rat's ass for CUDA, neither I do for the 3d glasses, so, all of this would sway me towards 4890.

You sound a lot like a vacation'd member who you could say wrecked threads. I like how you dismiss the unique features of the AMD card. According to this review the GTX275 and 4890 are very competitive. Depending on the game and resolution either could be faster... and they test games you'll actually play!

*edit - For the record, CUDA means nothing to me as I buy my cards for gaming.

Physx, while cool on paper and having the potential to really become the next big thing in the gaming world, just isn't there yet. I don't feel like I'm missing out without having it in it's current state. Games are slowly but surely trickling out that make use of it, and every new game is a bit more momentum for Physx. But where it is today, I don't feel like my gaming experience is lessened by not having it.

The 3D glasses are actually really cool to me, and I'd love to try them out. The problem with the 3D glasses is the cost of entry is a bit steep first of all (though I could get over that), but more importantly to me is that to use them you're handcuffed to a 22" monitor the costs a premium. Seeinng that I use my PC for a little of everything, I've really grown to like my 26" monitor and it's 1920x1200 resolution. When more monitors (bigger higher res ones namely) start coming out that support 120HZ then I'll be more inclined to look into the 3D glasses.

Talk about being right on. Who would take this incredibly horrible review seriously? It only uses 3 games and only compares them at one level. That is barely a review at all.

It's not just this review. It's taking in all the reviews you've seen and then making a decision based on that. Of course it's stupid to decide on just one review.

So all that hullaballo was all for naught? Big letdown.

My brothers GTX275 gets 253 FPS to my 4890s 250 FPS in half life 1. I wish I had bought nvidia
