Didn't the web notice two new GeForce SKUs? I realize they're rebrands, and not readily available from other OEMs or retailers, but Apple just released some new iMacs and Mac Pros with either:
GeForce GT 120 = 9500GT
GeForce GT 130 = 9600GSO = 8800GS (a rebrand of a rebrand, how rich :p )
Radeon 48x0 = finally!!!

But, there's all this hubbub over the GTS 250, but I think a lot more GT 1x0 will make it into peoples hands. They really seem like they're going to be the GeForce 4MX of this generation.

These are the GPUs we should be talking about because these will determine how good the graphics and games are (Lowest common denominator).

I wish I could find a website that's not Mac related that has anything about the cards. I wonder if they're going to be similar to the GTS 250 and have lower power consumption (I like).

The 8800GS/9600GSOs are still very good mid range cards for under $60. Only 20% slower than a 9800GT at 40% off.

I wonder if they will move them over to 55nm? That would make things interesting. As long as they dont use the "new" 9600GSO....

Thats a very confusing naming convention because there is a HUGE performance difference between the GT 120 and GT 130. There is basically no comparison in performance between a 9600GSO and a 9500GT (unless they are using a ultra-castrated version of the 9600GSO with very few shaders).

I can't wait for all of these to be re-branded again in a year when the GT300 comes out. The GT 120 can then be the GT 310 or something absurd...

Are we sure that the GT130 is going to be an 8800GS? Or will it actually be the 9600GSO 512? I thought nvidia dropped production of the old GS/GSO cores because they were too-damn-good (hell, I run one in my machine, best $36 I ever spent).

see? nvidia's rebranding worked, that 9600GSO that'll become a GT 130 is probably based on the G94 core and not the G92 from the 8800GS

Could be, it's a 512MB part, so it has a 128 or 256 bit bus, could be the latter of these two 9600 GSOs (from wikipedia):

The GeForce 9600 GSO is essentially a renamed 8800 GS. This tactic has been seen before in products such as the GeForce 7900 GTO to clear unsold stock when it is made obsolete by the next generation. Just like the 8800 GS the 9600 GSO features 96 stream processors, a 550 MHz core clock with shaders clocked at 1,375 MHz, and 384MB memory clocked at 1,600 MHz on a 192-bit memory bus. The newer 9600GSO is based on the 9600GT with 48 stream processors and 256-bit memory bus

Then it's almost definitely the craptastic one. Not even worth considering buying (except maybe as a dedicated PhysX card on the cheap).

boohoo, nvidia rebrands, get over it... also did this need a separate thread than the 250 rebrand?

It doesn't make any sense to compare them to the Geforce4 MX, these cards at least have the same DX version and feature set as the higher-end cards.

The Geforce4 MX was a problematic as a lowest-common-denominator card because it didn't have any freaking shaders, not because it was too slow.

That's what I'm thinking. A G94 with a die shrink would make for a great low end card if it is cheap enough.
