Geforce FX5500 AGP - $22.50 AR Staples B&M

My local Staples (Littleton NH) had a 128mb PNY Geforce FX5500 AGP 8x card for $62.50 -$40 EZ Rebate. Dual VGA + SVideo.

YMMV as always...shelf sticker said the price was good through 07/01.

I picked the last one up -- I'm assuming it's worth 22 bucks..if not, someone tell me. 😛

this is a very good price for the 5500 card, if I must say so myself..

I've owned a 5500, and it's probably the best 2D card I've ever had for a good price, and still does excellent in 3D graphics, but the 9600pro would still be faster. 9800pro is way faster.

anyway 5500 for 25 bucks is a good deal, will play Silent Hill 3 at max settings 1280x1024, plays Ultimate Spider, Elderscrolls 3 @ max

has trouble with BF2 and Unreal Tournament
 
I just purchased one from Bensalem, PA store, installed it and guess what?! The boot-up screen and Everest Home Edition both show that it is a 5700 VE with 256MB of RAM!!!!! I don't know much about NVIDIA cards, but how would this rate with ATI cards? Can this beat 9600 PRO?

By the way, there is DVI on this card as well as an adapter to change DVI to a second Analog card.
 
Oh by the way, you have to ask for it. The salespeople already removed them from the shelves and they are in the back for a return to the manufacturer (or whoever). I took the last one.

Never heard of a 5700 VE before. But if it's anything similar to a regular 5700, then the 5700 is a bit faster than the 9600 pro.

Does yours have a fan? Mine appears to be heatsink only.

Yes, it is similar, but the heatsink and the fan seems just a bit bigger/better. I found a "note" in the box that says "Congratulation, you have been upgraded."

CadetLee, sorry you didn't get one similar. Try a different store to see if they have one for you to purchase.
 
🙁 Wish they had the PCI (yes, old-school PCI) version for this price - would be a good upgrade for mom's AGP-less Dell.

No other local stores..ah well.

Same card as mine is $29.99 on the Egg, but with $5+ for s/h..so I saved a little over 10 bucks for a card I don't really need. 😛

I'll have to build a cheap mATX rig for it..:evil:

They also have the PCI version of the 5500 for about $34.50 or so after rebate. Sorry, don't know the SKU. Saw it on the clearance table in front of the store along with the 5500 AGP version.
