when does the GeForce FX get released? hw much wil it cost? is it worth the money?

thnx in advance 😀

I sure hope it's not $500, I believe NVIDIA would be shooting themselves in the foot. I believe they need to come out plus or minus ten dollars to the high end ATI card. I can understand an overblown price initially while the retail channel is filling but after that they better be the same price as the ATI. If that high price goes on for months they'll be hurting, just my thoughts.

february, a hell of a lot, probably not.

The optomist in me hopes that the release of the FX will drive down the price of the Radeon 9700 and the GF4 Ti4600 so us mortals can upgrade. I find it amazing that the video card has become the most expensive component of the average box. My monitor didn't even cost that much!

No one thinks it will be like Geforce4, with 3 price points? That is what I figured would happen, then I can get a crappy nv30 which will be good for me.

That's what generally happens 🙂 If you wait 1 product cycle behind (6mos.), you can upgrade 2x as often for the same price (generally) as if you bought the latest and greatest once per year. I tend not to invest that heavily into a piece of equipment, especially since I know something better is going to come out in 6 mos :Q

I don't think I'll ever spend more than $150 on a video card. If I can't get something for that price that will play games at good quality then there's a problem.

...well maybe $153 is the highest (Albatron ti4200p 128MB @305/580) I did spend.

Oh how I love my R300. My big fear was the NV30 would come out right after I bought it. It's not going to be available to most folks until March. I think this is going to work out great. I'll be able to enjoy the r300 for a while before doom comes out (you KNOW I gotta upgrade then no matter how much the latest and greatest costs).

I think most folks today would be wise to get either a GF4 4200 or a Radeon 9500. By the time such a card gets a bit dated the NV30's should have dropped from ridiculous to just slightly expensive.
