GeForce FX, predictions.

As you may know, there is susposed to be a GeForce FX 5800 and a GF FX 5800 Ultra. Also, it is said that there will be a $100 price difference between the two ($400 compared to $500.) Now I understand there can be no solid answers, but in your opinion, is there anything that will make the Ultra worth the extra $100?

all i care about with this is

1) how it compares to the 9700Pro
2) what the benchmarks are

Price doesn't bother me...at the moment...I WANT IT! I think one was $350 and the other $450 or something like that

Until we get some final details, I really don't believe it's worth speculation. There's simply too many things Nvidia can do at this point to change things around that would nullify any beliefs.

Generally speaking, if you are going to spend $400 or more just for the video card, there is no reason in holding back for a few extra dollars. I mean, if you are looking for the best bang for the buck, then you would usually go for a vid card under $200. Once you have decided you want to spend $400 for that little difference, whats another $100 for the absolute best?

I want

1)A stable Graphics Card
2)Overclockablity
3)Only takes up 1 Slot, not the cloest PCI
4)Cold

I really want benchmarks right now, thats all I care about at the time being. I dont like the huge price tag, I do understand that its brand new technology. I'd rather have a r9700Pro over a $500 card.

Perhaps, but I just want something that will crunch all the games for sometime. FX looks like the card to do it. Since I already have a thread started, might as well ask this also. Does Corsair memory compare to Crucial?

I prefer Corsair XMS memory to Crucial for overclocking. As for a card that will will crunch all the games for sometime, the 9700 Pro will do it as well, do it cheaper, and do it now 😀

Corsair XMS for serious overclocking and Crucial for mild overclocking and everything else. Both are quality products.

The only cofirmed information about the Ultra as opposed to standard is that the Ultra will take up 2 slots as opposed to the 1 that the standard does.

My guess would be that the Ultra is the card the 30%-40% advantage over the Radeon 9700 Pro; the standard is most likely pretty close to the performance of the Radeon 9700 Pro.

I have a strange feeling that this card (with AA/AF enabled) will be very close to R9700 in terms of performance. Of course, this is just my hunch, I dont have any inside info to confirm this or anything 🙂

My thinking is that the normal FX card would perform great, and that the Ultra would offer minimal extra performance. Perhaps a little higher core speed...
