GeForce FX Overclocking

Hey,

I am looking to overclock my FX 5900 Ultra. I want to know what sort of software is good for that and where I can download it. Also if any one has tips or sucess stories with the same hardware. Any help is always appreciated.

You should be able to get to about 475/950 (which is where I got my 5900 non-ultra to), but overclocking is a crapshoot, you can't predict what you'll get. You may get an insane OC or just a modest one. What brand is your card, and does it have the reference Nvidia heatsink or a custom model?

anyway, to activate coolbits just open up your registry with regedit and navigate to the following directory:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NVTweak

in "NVTweak" add a new dword and name it "CoolBits" then give that dword a value of 3. close regedit and reboot. You will then have a clockspeeds tab in your video cards drivers. My evga 5900ultra will do 500/970 for benchmarking, but I run it at 475/950 for day to day use.

it's not good to use a third party program that will be running in the background all the time if you don't have to. And it just so happens that nvidia has all of the overclocking you need built directly into their drivers. They just hide them by default, so you have to activate them by using the coolbits hack.

no reason to reboot, the change is instant.

I got 595MHz out of my 5950 core with the Tt Giant III! Cant wait to see what I get on the memory but I have to buy some ramsinks that will fit under this thing.

That's wierd, I've oc'd half a dozen nvidia boards with coolbits and never had to reboot... always used win 2k though.

You can Flash your 5900u to a 5950u (.2 v more on the gpu and slightly more lax timings on the ram).

On my Gainward I got 490/1020 stable.

It will easily flash to 5950 Ultra, its really easy to do , with minimal risk.

Once its flashed then you can overclock even further.

Tell that to the morons that screwed their cards up flashing them. DON'T FLASH IT unless you're willing to take the risk that you can hose your card and have the means to get another.
