Geforce FX 5900 Ultra

I was wondering which one is faster the Geforce 5900 Ultra or the Radeon 9800 Pro? The faster one I am going to put into my new computer.

About the same, personally I would wait until september as the Radeon 9900 Pro is annouced which should drive down prices.

Don't worry, prices will drop very soon on the Radeon 9800. I just purchased one and prices *always* drop after my purchase. :disgust:

I'm not upgrading from anything, this is a total new build.

AXP 3000+ Barton
GA-7NNXP
1GB Cosair
2x Maxtor 120GB 7200RPM SATA
LG 16x DVD
LG 52x24x52x CDRW
LG 4x DVD +-R+-RW
Antec 550W
dont know the case yet
and i was just wondering which card people would suggest

I say get a Radeon 9800 Pro if you need one this very second. If you can wait a month, wait for the 9900

The 5900 Ultra is faster in every single review, in every single test. Then, when overclocked up to 500mhz\1000mhz speeds, it gains another 10% on the Radeon.

I know the Radeon people don't want to admit it, but after a year of being behind, the 5900 Ultra is THE fastest video card currently available. Nvidia is king again... for now.

very true, the ONLY thing that i ever bought that went up in value was my Corsair memory, i scored 2 sticks at 90 a piece and now they sell for 130 a piece

Nebore, the 5900 does not win every test in every review. It falls behind signficantly with high antialiasing and anisotropic filtering modes. It's also been shown that the only reason the 5900 can even keep up in some of those tests is that it isn't actually performing the correct AF.

That said, I'd still rather have a 5900U than a 9800Pro.

ATI > Nvidia

Everyone has their own opinion. Like other people have stated, the 9900's and future lines of Radeon's will be out soon enough. You should wait unless you find a KILLER deal.

Of course everyone has opinions. LYING about benchmarks in this thread is another thing entirely.

I didn't say the 5900 won every test, I said the 5900 Ultra did. Pay attention. When overclocked the 5900 Ultra REALLY stomps the 9800 pro into the ground, with it's 500\1000mhz manliness. Read Hexus' review of the 5900 Ultra please. Then come back and talk.

ok i just read it, and ur talking outta ur ass. first the 5900 ultra did not win EVERY test. sure it won a lot, but not EVERY single one. there were some test where the 9800 pro came out on top, especially with commanche 4 tests. and if they really wanted a fair comparison they should have used a Radeon 9800 Pro 256 mb as the 5900 ultra has 256mb also. And also of course when overclocked the 5900 ultra is overclocled to 500/1000 and is still compared to a stock 9800 pro 128 mb. OC the radeon also similarly and you'll see different results.

see you DOUBT, but you dont know.

if u read some of the threads most people can get their 9800 pro up to 430+ core and 730+ memory. i personally run my 9800 pro 128mb at 425 core and 800 mhz ram. thats a +12.4% oc in core and +18.5% oc on the ram. compared to what hexus got on the 5900 ultra which was +10% oc in core and +12.3% oc on the ram. i think its time for you to read and then come back and talk buddy~

That's not similar though, it's more, so he was right, but of course, then the 9800Pro came and whooped his ass 🙂

Get the Raddy. Just because I like ATi more than I like nVidia.

Its not like you can tell the difference in FPS between the two without a counter anyway.

All things considered they are roughly equal.

Pretty much, yeah. I think the idea is, when you're throwing down ~500 dollars for a video card, you want to get the best.

I'll always buy Nvidia stuff, so for me, it's no contest. And I attempt to convert others to my side.

same here
I actually buy whatever's best for the money... but my 9700pro has given me too many headaches...
and now with this fx5900 for only $279 at gameve... i couldn't resist

Meh. No point in arguing over this anymore. What do I care if some smuck buys a Voodoo 8. So long as I buy the best card. 😛

That touches 500\1000 how?

They only push their cards that high so that they can compete with the Radeons.
Check out the old 5800's and see if their 500/1000 cards can compete with a Radeon 9700Pro clocked much lower even.

The 5900Ultra is a fast card, but if you overclocked both the 9800Pro and the 5900Ultra and then run some tests, I think
the two would be fairly close. Plus the 9800Pro costs less than the 5900U 😛

speeds are different because their are different GPU/RAM combinations. stock 5900 ultra speeds are 450/850, and stock radeon 9800 pro speeds are 380/675, so of course the 5900 ultra will OC to a higher frequency, its clocked higher to begin with. what i showed you was the % it oc'ed over default, which is a much better way to compare their OC'ing capabilities.

Anyways both are great cards that go neck and neck in most tests, just the radeon 9800 pro is cheaper.
