I don't know how much your allowed to post in a topic but im going to post the IRC transcript with someone who knows a bit about comp's and he was unable to come up with a solution, I realise it's a long read but there are others with this problem as well and I've came across no solution for it

me = chris``
him = sense

[Start IRC Log]

<chris``> im having a hardware problem :p geforce fx 5200 to be exact :p
<chris``> anyone good w/ hardware here?
<sense> why did you get that card
<chris``> i didn't roommate did :p
<chris``> i have one also tho, but this is concerning his
<sense> whats the problem?
<chris``> why what would you of recommended?
<chris``> no post :p
<chris``> card works
<chris``> tried it in mine
<sense> what card did you have before?
<chris``> heh a shiiiiiiiiity v3
<chris``> his geforce won't post in his comp but it will in mine
<sense> how much did you pay/?
<chris``> he paid 98 for his, i paid 158 for mine like a moron
<sense> lol
<chris``> im sure you can get it for 40-60 off pricewatch
<chris``> but back to the problem :p pls heh, we have tried literally everything
<sense> i would have got like a gf4 4200 instead
<sense> and oc it
<sense> what are his specs?
<chris``> new bios revision, tinkered with the bios to no end. unplugged his hardware everything except card
<sense> card+ memory you need the memory to post
* d0rk has joined #challenges
<sense> and cpu of course
<chris``> yeah
* d0rk has quit IRC (Client closed connection)
<chris``> basically everything except the essentials
<sense> does it beep or what
* ChanServ sets mode: +l 95
<chris``> he has a motherboard, and what is odd is ive saw others from forums who had this very problem who also had the board that uses the sdram/ddram architecture
<chris``> where you can use both types of ram
<chris``> no beep
<chris``> a deadness, the agp card fan spins up
<sense> no beep? wth
<chris``> hd lights up
<chris``> yeah heh
<chris``> no beep
<sense> what size is the psu?
<chris``> 300w
<sense> do you have a multimeter handy?
<chris``> its sufficient enough even though its not much
<sense> i wonder what the rails are
<chris``> nope unfortunately
<chris``> heh
<sense> does the board have onboard video?
<chris``> the bios does have a 'agp comp driv' function, but i need to find out which setting correlates to which voltage
<chris``> nope that wuld of been my first guesstimate if it did.. we disabled everything that it -does- have onboard tho
<chris``> which is lan and a modem
* JayDee has quit IRC (Quit: /quit)
<chris``> tried to run it in 1x too
<chris``> nothing..
* Grassy has quit IRC (Quit: Leaving)
<sense> does your video card work in his rig?
<sense> you said you tried his in yours
<chris``> no.. which is the only thing that even gives me the impression it could be motherboard related, or either nvidia specific
<sense> but did you try yours in his
<chris``> yep
<chris``> er i mean i did try it in his
<chris``> but the same effects
<chris``> as his card
<sense> k
<sense> did he have another card
<sense> that worked
<chris``> but i dont know the card is obviously getting power
<sense> prior to this
<chris``> not agp unfortunately, just pci
<sense> damn
<chris``> this motherboard is new as well, not older then a few weeks
<sense> cause the agp slot
<sense> could be bad
<sense> but i dont get why it wouldnt beep
<chris``> exactly
<sense> if it doesnt show video
<chris``> thats the kicker, it'd give a no video beep
* cl0wn has joined #challenges
<haze> is this tournament single elimination allt he way through?
<chris``> so essentially im left to believe it sees a card there and it should be operable but theres a bios setting that is somehow not set right
<sense> no
* ChanServ sets mode: +l 94
<sense> if you set the bios
<sense> to default
<haze> who were you talking to?
<sense> it should post up
<sense> you
<sense> haze
<chris``> and what that setting is i dont know, it HAS to be the agp comp driving which you can set the juice it gets manually instead of auto, it may just not be getting neough juice to kick up
<haze> what round does it start double elim?
<sense> bios defaults + a agp card
<sense> should work
<sense> without having to set a special
<sense> settings
<sense> so there is something else wrong
<sense> i think final 8
<sense> or 4
<haze> o
<chris``> yeah.. but now that its not.. i mean on the one hand i do believe the agp slot could be bad but on the other id ont know. it does see the card and the bios gives no beep heh
<sense> you dont know for a fact
<sense> it sees the card
<chris``> well..
<sense> fan spinning up
<sense> doesnt mean it sees it
<chris``> if it didnt see it id assume you'd get a 'no video' error code
<chris``> you unhook the card and you get it :)
<sense> if the board is bad though you might not get that error code
<chris``> yeah..
<sense> no card you get a beep?
<chris``> yeah the typical no video beep
<sense> what psu do you have?
<sense> brand make model
<chris``> manufacture wise?
<haze> Speakeasy.net - CHI Q3 CPM (1.11)|31ms|64.81.159.135:27961
<haze> anyone?
<chris``> oh im not sure of his, he gave up on it a few mins ago he's in bed
<sense> how about yours?
<chris``> eh, sec
<onyx> [ 66.92.224.135:27961 ] ping:30ms map:cpm11a players:0/17/2 [ Speakeasy.net - PHL Q3 CPM (1.11) ]
<onyx> how about there
<onyx> hehe
<chris``> haha 'valu-line' get this, not 300w, 250 Watts
<chris``> saw the model but dont remember
<onyx> [ 64.81.159.135:27961 ] ping:50ms map:cpm15 players:1/17/2 [ Speakeasy.net - CHI Q3 CPM (1.11) ]
<chris``> my psu is also 3 1/2 years old :>
<chris``> his is brand new
<chris``> 300 w
<sense> one thing to try is put yours in his
<sense> see what happens
<chris``> yeah sounds like the last thing to try
<sense> not much else to do
<sense> other than try a bigger psu
<sense> like an antec 430 tru power
<sense> if that doesnt work
<sense> something must be wrong
<sense> with that board
<chris``> well see
<chris``> other ppl who posted problems that had the same things
<sense> or try a diff agp card
<sense> one thats older
<sense> like a gf2
<sense> or something
<chris``> like 'novideo and also no beep' had the sdram/ddram architecture, something tells me it has something to do with this
<chris``> cant explain what but i dunno
<sense> they didnt offer any advice
<sense> or a solution?
<chris``> no heh ppl just kept posting with the same problems
<chris``> apparently it isnt limited to my roomates computer, guess what? most were nvidia based cards as well
<sense> who makes the board?
<chris``> eh the motherboard or the 3rd party manufacturer on his nvidia card?
<sense> the motherboard
<chris``> pcchips heh, the motherboard manufacturer (spare me the that sux) i know the board isnt hot :p
<chris``> but the facts are, my motherboard is a knockoff brand as well
<sense> never heard of it
<sense> hrm
<chris``> i dunno im stumped :(
<sense> what chipset?
<chris``> he sent in an rma to nvidia
<chris``> i just asked him vt something he dont know the rest off top
<sense> ive never come accross a problem like this
<chris``> me either
<sense> and ive built like 50 boxes
<chris``> heh
<haze> lol
<haze> some guy just joined the server and left
<haze> cause a 50 ping was to high for him
<sense> vt?
<sense> is it an intel or amd chipset?
<chris``> but i just keep getting the suspicion its not a mobo problem and i don't know why, i could handle an incompatibility explanation.. but i havent gotten that either
<onyx> it was me
<onyx> 50 ping is gay
<onyx> i'm used to like 20
<haze> lol thats pathetic
<chris``> oh its an INTEL board, like i said above its a funky mobo tho
<onyx> so 50 ping is gay to me
<haze> hope your not in the tournament
<onyx> same way as if someone had 50 ping
<onyx> and thought 80 was crappy
<chris``> its an interchangeable with the p4 and the celly
<sense> you dont know the board model
<haze> ill play you on phl if you cant handle a ping disadvantage
<sense> pcchip what
<chris``> m920
<sense> thats just manufac
<sense> k
<chris``> m920LR
<chk-putty> ahh
<chk-putty> red
<onyx> i'll play tommorow
<haze> my ping isnt even that bad i just didnt want to move to a different server
<onyx> it's like 6
<chk-putty> what are you usin to watch the movie?
<onyx> going to bed now anyways
<haze> Speakeasy.net - PHL Challenges Q3 1v1 CPM (1.11)|34ms|66.92.224.135:27962
<chk-putty> mplayer2 or wmplayer?
<haze> lol
<haze> a man of many excuses ;)
<chris``> he's flashe dit to latest revision i havent came across too much help for the problem
<onyx> what
<chris``> im gonna post on anandtech and virtualdr
<onyx> you think i'm going to change my mind on going to sleep at 6am because you wanna play a game?
<haze> no dont relaly care
<haze> you join to play a game
<haze> not to come in and say you dont want to play with a 50 ping
<haze> well id assume anyway
<onyx> i didn't wanna play with 50 ping
<onyx> so i decided to goto bed
<haze> Speakeasy.net - CHI Q3 CPM (1.11)|31ms|64.81.159.135:27961
<sense> how did he flash it
<sense> if he cant psot
<sense> post
<chris``> put in his v3 card
<chris``> lol
<chris``> he has a v3 as well
<chris``> we both (had) v3's
<sense> ohh yea the pci card
<chris``> yep :p
<sense> why did you guys go off brand :(
<sense> how much did he pay for this board?
<chris``> watcha mean off brand :p
<chris``> he paid 98
<sense> 98?
<sense> omg
<sense> you can get a epox 8rda+
<sense> for 85
<chris``> oh crap hold up haha
<chris``> no not his mobo
<chris``> thought you meant card for some reason
<chris``> he paid 120 for the mobo and cpu
<chris``> it was a mobo+cpu combo
<sense> what cpu
<chris``> 1.8 celeron
<sense> you could have gotten a better deal
<sense> with amd
<chris``> he would have but the boards in his price range at the time didn't have the expandability he wanted
<chris``> didnt have the right amount of slots basically, we are 2 broke ass roomates go easy :p
<{MagI}paw_dawg> www.priceatch.com
<{MagI}paw_dawg> www.pricewatch.com
<chris``> yep i use that site religiously
<chris``> god site paw :>
<chris``> good
<sense> next time
<sense> go to
<sense> hardforums.com or sharkyforums.com
<sense> general
<sense> say i have this budget
<sense> what should i get
<{MagI}paw_dawg> could have got xp2400 for 115$
<sense> you will get tons of help
<sense> :)
<{MagI}paw_dawg> celron suffers from lack of cache on die
<chris``> life long dream = accomplished
<chris``> stumped sense :p
<sense> lol
<chris``> its stumped me and im not that savvy really but I know funny crap when I see it so i knew i had to ask someone on here

[End IRC Log]

Well now that I think about it, The post is not THAT long, its just the manner in how the post is made to be long as it is not compacted like a wordwrap type deal.

To sum it up my roomie has a video card that is not Posting, AGP card, I've read similiar problems, We are getting no beep error codes, Card works, been tried in other computer, External devices removed from the PSU to see if its a power issue, Appropriate bios settings adjusted. It is a finicky problem...

probably the generic motherboard isn't giving enough power or a crappy power supply. If the board can use 2x-4x agp try 2x. But I think its a power supply issue. If your using
a generic one.

power issue, not seated correctly video card, or the contacts on the motherboard are screwed...

Motherboard?
Vid card?
PSU?
Anything else you can think of that would be useful?

Well now that I think about it, The post is not THAT long,
LOL, its not the length, its the content;) Seriously, if you were to simply list the problem you have, and the things you've tried..along with your system specs, it works better than making everyone go through that inane conversation to ferret out the particulars.:)

I know {MagI}paw_dawg :) He plays Q3 freezetag :)

Anyway have you tried a different videocard in his computer, and does that work? If not just take back the celeron+board combo and pick up an athlonXP combo. Go for a namebrand board.

littlemeister, I need more info (motherboard model specifically), but this is just an idea.

You said it's an older celeron board. It could be that the board puts out 3.3v on the agp slot. I've seen where newer video cards (1.5v) will NOT work in the 3.3v agp slot.

It's something to check.

I think sense's first instinct was right, sounds exactly like a power problem. Either insufficient power / rails or short somewhere, or what jojo was saying.
