Geforce FX 256 meg conflict and monitor troubles

hey i have a custom pc i recently added a Gforce 4 FX 256 meg ddr AGP 4X made by PNY, and i usta have a Gforce 4 mx 64 meg made by gainward, anywayse, now when i turn the computor on everything works perfect, until i run about 2 or 3 programs, the monitor jsut turns to a full black screen, the green light changes to orange, and my speakers freak out too, they make a static noise, i also noticed that my blue lights in my case turn off when the monitor turns to black, i dont knwo what is goin on, i have all the most recent dirvers loaded, and i dont have dirvers loaded ontop of drivers, and i have the latest direct x, this problem never occured when i had my old graphics card in, the only changes i have made are adding that new graphics card, and adding a new case fan, i have a 400W power supply, 512 megs ddr ram, a tyan motherboard, tiger series with dual athlon 1800 mp's, they run at 1.53 or something like that, and i have a sound blaster audigy aound card, for any further details, that i forgot ot mention please e-mail me @ shatterstorm002@cs.com, and thank you all so much for taking hte time to read this, and possibly help me out, im a newbie to all this, so ya thanks alot i appreciate it. : )

Get an ATI card.... Seriously though, it sounds like you have a bad card.

thanks, is ATI better in your opinion? and what do you think of the 256mb cards? worth it? anyone with any other ideas of might be wrong. Thanks though mark!

I have no idea what a Geforce 4 FX 256mb is. Look at the box, and tell us what kind of card it is... Regardless, it sounds like your card is screwed.

Personally, yes I do like ATI better, but not to skew this thread, read reviews on Anandtech.com. As for 256 meg, it is a waste. A nice Radeon 9100,9600pro/9800pro (depending on price range you want to spend, $100,$200,$300) is my recomendation.

before you splurge on another card ..

try the card in another computer and another monitor
