Ok, really weird problem here
I did some benchmarking in Quake3 Arena(v 1.17) with Demo001.dm3

The 1024x768 32bit Max Texture quality score was 55fps, which is perfectly good for a P3-500 and GeForce DDR.

However i then did 640x480 16bit (Normal) and i got a score of 63fps!!
A pathetic 8fps gain when switching from 32bit to 16bit, and from 1024 to 640

Whats going on? I know i should be hitting at least 90fps on these settings.

Btw i'm using the 5.32, and i've tried 5.22, same thing
Also i'm NOT using FSAA. If FSAA was on, my 1024 score would have been awful.

Ta!

Isn't lower resolutions not so much video card dependent? So I guess a real fast cpu would have more of a affect at lower resolutions. And a P3-500 isn't really that fast but that does puzzle me because 1024x768x32 to 640x480x16 with only 8fps gain is f$%#ed up! And you are using new drivers too... I'm confused too.

I also only a 8fps gain when I switch from 1024x768 to 640x480. 111fps vs 103fps

I'm running a Geforce DDR with 5.22 drivers.
P3800@960mhz. 256 ram

I don't believe there is a problem. The video card isn't the bottleneck, thats why when we reduce the resolution we don't see a major performance gain.

Make sure your video card's refresh rate is not set to optimal. 5.xx drivers still seem to have a problem with refresh rates. I think it defaults nearer 60Hz. Set it to 75, 85 or 100 what ever your monitor can handle.

Make sure VSync is off and also make sure your \com_maxfps is not set too low. Default I think is 85.

I have similar specs to you and I just got 85 fps at 640 x 480 on normal setting. The Athlon won't make it better as it seems to be some form of settings thats holding your fps back not your CPU.
