Digitimes has a tidbit on Nvidia's intention to launch the Geforce 9 series GPU (D9E) coming February 2008.

The D9E high-end part will be fabbed in 65 nm and will support DX10.1 and SM4.1.

It also looks like they will also be releasing a mid-ranged D9P part in June 2008 using a 55 nm process.

I guess people waiting to get their hands on a 8800GT can always wait a bit more for a Geforce 9 series. My wallet is already feeling the burn....

mm , you know the G92 are already out : )

All the G9 series will bring would be DX10.1/SM4.1. They will increase Shader unit and maybe the rop/texture unit which equals a 8900GTX.

Are you sure this isn't just that G92-based GX2/SLI card we've been hearing about?

If this D9E is in fact a new generation card, I'll probably wait for it instead of getting an 8800GT. I'm not going to have any time for games until mid January anyway.

According to the new naming convention that Nvidia has outlined, they have effectively abandoned the "Gxx" designation.

The G92 you are referring to is also known as D8P. It looks like the D9E is going to be something new (probably like what you guessed, DX10.1/SM4.1 and more stream processors bigger memory bus).

Nvidia's new naming

What a bummer. Knowing my luck, my 90-day Step-up will have expired by that time if this rumor proves to be true.

Good. Now we need to find out wether this D9E card is a true single card capable of defeating the 8800Ultra (with a good margin) or a GX2 type of card will be forced down our throats.

I am really hoping for a true single card. I want 790i, Yorkfield and 3xD9E cards in Triple SLI mode.

easy there champ :p

with our luck each card will take up 3 slots, have 3 power connectors, and the drivers will suck horse scrotum :D

on the serious side, i think tri sli will die even before it comes out. its one of those things that is not feasible, just like skulltrail or any other 4-digit costing BS they try to sell us.

Same here, I see you bought yours on release day as well huh? It's probably a well thought out marketing plan to keep all of us who bought our cards on 10/31 from stepping-up. :)

Sorry for the OT question.
The step up program. What does it base it's date on? I ordered on launch day but the card didn't ship and I didn't get billed until 3 weeks later. My order shows Oct 29th but my credit card shows Nov 16th. Is EVGA pretty good about this or will I run into trouble if the new card is released in that 3 week period?

Edit: Checking the FAQ it just states that it's based on purchase date. So I would assume like any other rebate if I'm able to provide proof of my payment on a specific date it will be followed for that date.

Amen to that. If they introduce the 8800 GTS and it's 10-20 % faster than a GT, awesome. If it's 50 dollars more, double awesome. But chances are it's going to be like 350-400 for a while. The point of the 8800 GT isn't that it's the fastest card around, it is the value (at 250 anyway) it provides. New higher end cards won't change that value.

They could have scrapped the idea and instead trying to bring out the D9E as soon as possible to combat the R680.

8800GTX/Ultra still does have abit of life in them.

Jag, that's a nice system you built there! But doesn't it bother you that after paying all that money to build a top machine comes Crysis and you can't play at 2560x1600 with Very High settings?
That's what makes me want the 790i and Triple-SLI. Coupled with the fact that I can get the money to get that equipment and I'm a sucker for new toys.... well, you get it.

I need to make some changes to my current config. I need a bigger case. What would you guys get? Lian-Li Cube or MM U2-UFO Duality OT?

who says I cant? not exactly the frame rate I expect... but it works

try SLI is the biggest waste of money ever. you are going to spend 2000 dollars on video cards and use on-board audio? LOL come on buddy...

as far as the case, Id say go with the TJ07 unless you really need that much space, those cases are huge. In a TJ07 you can fit two 2x120 rads at the bottom, one for cpu and one for 2 GPUs. Of course the UFO can fit two 3x120, but hey its up to you... I wouldn't have the place to put that thing :p

Trust me I am :), but when I purchased the GT I was also looking at it as a possible investment in the next generation of cards. Timing is everything though, so I guess it's back to using EBay again.

I'd be happy with Crysis at 45+fps at 1680x1050! :)

Yep, I guess if they take that naming route people will be looking forward to owning their second 9800, a Nvidia 9800 GTX that is ;).

Must be a hell of a card if it puts the 8800 ultra in the shade!
Hope its not a duo gpu thing, unless of course it is cheap and drivers improve.

Well, I'm not using the on-board audio, I have an X-Fi :) Of course, in Vista, X-Fi = On-board since I cannot take advantage of EAX.
I need the space, as much as possible. I have the Vapochill LS unit cooling my CPU mounted in the belly of this V2000b and there's no place to throw a needle in there. Lian-Li V2000 is not a small case either, but mine is filled to maximum.
After the whole system was in, I only had place to fit a 2x120 radiator and another 1x120 one. The 2x120 cools the video cards, the 1x120 cools the NB, SB, Mosfets and RAM.
This cooling is not enough for my taste, plus, I have to keep the fans at 100% in order to keep the video cards cool.
That's why I was thinking about getting a new case, fitting 2 or 3 Thermochills PA120.3 and having some nice silent fans for a quiet system.
I would also like to keep the freezer onto my CPU, I kinda got used to having it at -10 celsius during heavy usage.
