not likely. I'm not sure what Nvidia or ATi's going to do what with this Vista/DX10 delay; I'm thinking they might release another refresher based on DX9 and probably more pipelines/fewer transistors/smaller dies. Who knows?

The most likely scenario is Nov releasefor new cards from both ATI and nVidia. They try to catch the holiday shopping and it's close enough to the current release date of Vista that they can hype that up as another selling point.

Is this still the case? Or are they releasing 8 Series this summer?

There is zero reason for releasing either the R600 or the G80 video cards before Nov. Most likely we'll see some product refreshes from both companies in mid to late summer. Then in late Nov, or even Dec we'll see a release for video cards with new cores.

These are just my predictions and my own personal opinions. I don't have any inside info so don't take it as set in stone. However, I just don't feel it makes any sense for either company to release DX10 parts 4-6 months ahead of Vista. ATI and nVidia will want to catch some of the hype MS will be throwing Vista's way to try to sell a few extra video cards to people upgrading to Vista.

The other thing is, an extra three months with a Nov release instead of a summer release gives them a lot more time to refine the R600 and G80 cores as well as debugging. This is especially important this time around as both companies seem to be making radical changes to their cores for DX10. You can see some of the changes already with the memory controller in ATI's X1800 and X1900 cards.

Considering the close heat race that ATI and Nvidia are experiencing right now I expect that neither will chose to "wait and see" on their releases. While, I agree that it's likely that the dates may slip due to technical reasons, their is little reason for either to delibrately wait on pulling the trigger.

Even if the dx10 capabilities have no value, these cards will still be a significant step up in capability for dx9. The Oblivion benchmarks, show that this performance increase has value.

If Nvidia, for example, makes the decision to delay, and ATI does not... ATI will sweep up the highly profitable premium market.

Additionally, it is expensive to tool up parts, and then not run the machines... for those two reasons (and a host of other business type reasons) I doubt that either will wait for Vista.
