Best Buy has the 7900GS on sale for $150 and the
X1950 Pro for $200. Which one would be the better value?
I currently have an eVGA 7800GT CO KO.

If you're considering overclocking, i'd have to say the 7900GS is the better buy, being $50 cheaper. If you're not considering overclocking (or only light overclocking), however, the x1950Pro is the better buy (the 7900GS at stock isn't enough of an upgrade over a 7800GT to be worth it, really). As for stock HSF, it depends on each individual card (ie, whether or not the company has used a non-reference fan), but i believe the reference fan on the x1950Pro is the better one, if i'm not mistaken. My Palit 7900GS (with non-reference fan) does 580/800 fairly easily (haven't done much testing at those speeds, however).

I don't think either of these is enough of a jump from your 7800 GT to make sense.

I'd say you should be looking at X1900 XT range minimum for a decent upgrade...unless you can sell your 7800 for the same as is costs for those other cards.

Totally agree here.

He just wants to know which of the two cards are a better value. That doesn't imply that he's going to buy them to replace his card! :p

The way he worded it, i'd say yes it does :p

But okay:

Better value if OCing = 7900 GS
Better value if not = depends on what games you play.

The X1950 Pro compares better to the 7900GT in performance the the GS and is worth $50 more, but both are worth the money... keep in mind that Newegg has a Sapphire X1950XT for $249 right now thats considerably faster then both of theses too.

Because it's relevant, useful and within a reasonable reach of his price range. Thanks tuteja.
