OUR FRIENDS OVER at GDhardware managed to grab the actual picture of Nvidia Geforce 7800GT card and to get some performance numbers out of it.
It kind of gives a more complete picture to the article we filed yesterday. We said that Nvidia plans to launch 7800 GT card on 11th but we failed to mention that the Nvidia actual introduction will be done at Quakecon gaming event starting on 11th of August.

Nvidia Geforce 7800GT will cost $399 and will score 14829 in 3Dmark03. Geforce 6800 Ultra scores 13135 for 256 MB version while 512 version scores 12938. This gives 7800 GT a nice chance for success over previous high end 6800 Ultra cards. In the same scenario Geforce 7800 GTX scores 16310.

It's still a single slot cooled card and you can see the scores and the pictures here. µ

What you guys think? something that has a 10~20%over the 6800 ultra, SLi capabilites..
maybe hidden pipelines, single slot, more quite, lesser power, and only for 399!!!!

.. It is one hell of a monster isnt it, all thing considered.
😀

Cant wait.

Who cares about the 3Dmark03 ?!?!? that benchmark is messed up - the score even depends on your sound card to some degree !! screwed up

3Dmark05 is DA BOMB and is the best benchmark to isolate the performance of the video card alone. 7800GTX scores around...... 7800 (!) in 3dmark05

my sb audigy 2 scores lower on the sound tests than other systems with integrated. wow... i paid 400 for a 6800gt and how this? i hope it is alot better than the 6800ultra. and how did they get 13000 plus with a 6800ultra without ocing?

It will be faster.
400mhz on core, 1100mhz on memory, plus 20 pipelines. Its 20%faster than an ultra at a price of $399 😵.

Really meager performance gains over a 6800 U and GT. With the 6800 GT at $300 or less not a great deal unless it can OC well.

And you pulled this out of who's ass?

have you considered the fact this will probably consume (comparng it to the 7800GTX) less power, and produce less heat?

Put in the 20 pixel pipline plus 400mhz on core, and it should be way faster than an 6800GT. It could have the potential to be unlockable... Ocable to GTX speeds, drool.

Me either. Fortunately for us, August 11 is not that far away. If this card defeats the X850XT PE at everything and costs $399 MSRP, there will be crickets chirping at the ATI for a while.

I can envision $350 online prices pretty quickly, 10-20% higher than 6800U performance for that much money would be a very popular card indeed.

Zendari always see's the "positive" in nvidia products. Not. Ackmed's apprentice.

I like her "Flying Nun" avatar better than Ackie's standard ATI fan issue jagged head guy though. 😉

They gave us a 3dmark score. Despite what all the haters say its not a terrible GPU benchmark. This is hardly next-gen performance in any case.

But the Nvidia fanbois have taken over this thread.

3dmark isnt really a great example. Just wait for the real world gaming.
Just look at the 7800GTX and its real world gaming. Absolutely excellent.

And people these days want like 2x jump in performance or something. Its not going to happen til maybe next gen!!! and anyhow the 7800GTX is already at almost 2x performance of an 6800 ultra. Hell crank up the resolution and there you go, 3 times the performance.

They gave us 3dmark 2003.

Game Test 1 - Wings of Fury (DX7)
Game Test 2 - Battle of Proxycon (DX8; PS 1.4)
Game Test 3 - Trolls' Lair (DX8; PS 1.4)
Game test 4 - Mother Nature (DX9; PS 2.0)

1-3 mostly cpu limited, new game like battlefield 2 not even support old PS 1.4 hardware, only 2.0 and newer.

That good benchmark to see how old game perform.

It's absolutly worthless.

3dnark shows all the same:
http://techreport.com/reviews/2005q2/pentiumd-820/3dmark.gif

Real Games are totally differnt:
http://techreport.com/reviews/2005q2/pentiumd-820/doom3.gif
http://techreport.com/reviews/2005q2/pentiumd-820/farcry.gif
etc etc etc

Notice anandtech does'nt even use that POS.

😕

Those are CPU benchmarks.

Your own figure was 10-20%. Thats not nextgen, its a refresh model.

zendari, look at it this way.

-- 3dmark05 is more gpu limited hence will show higher gains than the 3dmark03 benchmarks
-- real games show even more gains than 3dmark05
-- the GT will have much better HDR performance than the GT/Ultra
-- the GT will have TSAA
-- the PCIe 6800GT is currently > $300

Now you see why your claim that $399 for the 7800GT isn't worth it is complete bollocks? For what it's worth, I don't think that it'll be that cheap but who knows.

Well, it looks like ATi is gonna have to do some price slashing (at least on the X850s) to remain somewhat competitive.

That's good for us 😀

Add to your list
-Less power
-Less heat
-SLi
-unlockable
-Since based on the same core, OCable to higher core speed.

And as trinibwoy puts it, if this comes at a price of 399.. just wow.

399 for this card would be sweet. If this thing is unlockable it is going to be even more of a hot seller.

3dmark test the cpu and incorporates it into that final bogus score you see there, it's supposed to be reprsentative of what you'll game like. Which it was'nt, at all. Showing even marks in thier sythetic which real world games varied huge depening on CPU used.

How else do you propose to show how flawed 3dmark is? You certainly can't change the GPU. If you can come up with a better test LMK.

Read up man 3dmark is a joke and no serious reviewer use it..only the lazy or incompitant because it's easy...but like most things in life, the easy road anit worth a sh1t.
