Anyone who doesn't think 7800GTX SLI has any use need only look at the Far Cry, Splinter Cell, Doom3 and Riddick benches to see how these games can and should be played.

My 6800U agp aint loud as they claim it is and the 7800GTX is said to be quiet so your pc must be quiet elsewhere lol., all passive but your gpu 😛

Why couldn't you? Any game out would be able to run good at those marks. Hell, even my 9800xt can run that at around 30fps. It's not totally playable, but the 7800 would be.

Really? What can't I play at 16X12 4X8X on a 7800GTX Ackmed? Try to give examples if you're going to refute me?

I'll admit I'm always using 7800SLI so this setting is like 10X7 for me, but even a single 7800 should handle that setting on every game fine, AFAIK. What are you playing on yours that doesn't? I'll fire it up if I have it.

Farcry showed very little performance increase; it was only 2 fps more than the x850xt.

Farcry showed very little performance increase; it was only 2 fps more than the x850xt.

I wonder if they had some Far Cry "Issues", Toms shows the X850XT PE getting destroyed by the 7800:

You mentioned two games in this thread, that you cant with the features you always tout. You cannot run those two games, at the setting you claimed, with HDR on.

You always try to prove that Riddick with soft shadows, Farcry and Chaos Theory with HDR are so great. Yet you cannot play those games, with 4xAA. And a single 7800GTX certainly cant run any of them at 1600x1200 with 8xAF at a good enough frame rate for me.

I dont get it. my overclocked 6800GT runs all my games at full detail with 4xAA and they are not slow, so going to a 7800 would just be pointless. It's a sweet car no doubt, just overkill.

Not slow to you, may be very slow to others. Also, not everyone uses the same res as you do. Try playing any new game at 1920x1200 with full detail and 4xAA. It will bring a 6800GT to its knees.

ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, Ackmed, i can run FarCry maxed with HDR on and its ok looking to me it can stutter odd time but thats on a overclocked AGP 6800 Ultra.

1x7800GTX should take anything FarCry can throw at it never mind even needing 2x in SLI

My CPU btw is a Amd 2600 mobile @2.8gig & 225/450FSB, as i know FarCry is very CPU dependant, so thats only reason i mention this to compare like for like.

BTW whats highest res in settings for FarCry i aint played it for long time i know it will be at least 1600x1200, but cant remember if it had my monitors highest recommended of 1792x1344, btw i wouldnt even want to play games on a tflcd POS, as 20ms delay is 50fsp even 8ms panels is around 110-120fps.


I couldnt really give a toss but i dont believe a 7800GTX cant max FarCry at say rule of thumb >1600x1200 (max setting they use in benchmarks as most monitors dont go higher) or bit more if your monitor supports with HDR on and all other aspects as full as you can put them.

No. I did not. I only said you can play any game at 16X12 4XTAA8X with a 7800GTX, something you should be aware of now that you own one.

I think 7800 SLI is awesome, but to drop $1200 on it would be foolish.

And I don't know who in their right mind has SLI running off the authors so-called hefty cpu power...

u can understand that this requires some hefty CPU power so you better be sure to have a high-end processor in your PC. And with High-end I really mean a Pentium 4 3.4 GHz, Athlon 64 3200+ or equivalent for the Series 6 products and even faster (3400+) for Series 7, at minimum.

I am an nvidia fan too.. they make great hardware.

But simply because he is an nvidia fan (if he is), is no reason to essentially troll the poor guy. When hes right, hes right.. when hes wrong.. then attack.

But an NV fan has few weaknesses these days.. so you might we waiting a while 😉
