Geforce 7800 agp??

Still, it's a bitter pill for some of us. I bought a 754-pin Athlon64 2800+, mobo, and RAM in the summer of 2004. It overclocks well and is still a reasonably fast system. I am running a 9700 Pro and would like to upgrade, and it's frustrating not having access to the 7800GT, when the AGP bus is still fast enough to run it without a meaningful performance shortfall. A full upgrade, including a CPU, mobo, and probably RAM would be a costly proposition.

There's already a 6800GT AGP. Did you mean GS?

I'm still holding out hope. It seems stupid to ignore all the money that they could make by having a 7800GT AGP.

For the price of a 7800GT? No thanks. Why not just make 7800GT AGP cards now that 6800 cards are reaching EOL as the latest price guide states?

I wish I could have avoided building a whole new system for a dual core CPU but I'm glad that I can now get a 7800GT for the same price as a 6800GT would have cost me. AGP cards will remain abnormally high compared to PCI-E because any card that is left as the highest performing AGP part will command a premium regardless of age. When the 6800 reaches end of life for real, expect something of equal performance (To a 6800GT/Ultra) derived from newer core technology to sell for the same inflated price as a midrange/high-end PCI-E card. It's the same reason PIII 1GHz Slot 1 CPUs were so valuable even once they were obsolete. It's a gold mine.

BTW OP: I hope you are planning on using it with that awesome system in your sig 😉
 
7800 GS would be a nice sendoff for my Athlon XP SFF system

Upgrading to a mobo w/ PCI-E would maen a new CPU, case and PS as well..so a vid card only upgrade would rock...
 
It's funny because let's look at a 9800pro, which cost over 350 bucks when it first came out. Now, it's like in the hundred dollar section, except for a 9800xt256 (over rated), but then a 7800GTX will be a hundred bucks in a few years from now. How old is the 9700 ($400 USD @ 2002/2003?), that card is like snow flakes compared to a 7800GTX.

I'm pretty sure the 7K series isn't going to release an AGP version, if so, it'll probably be like the over priced PCI video cards that existed during AGP's flagship days, and still exist to this day actually.
 
Personally, I think we will see either ATI or Nvidia release another AGP card that is of this latest generation (X1800 or 7800). Now I'm not sure if the cost or performance would be the same as their PCI-e name-sakes, but I believe it will be available.
Of course I'm really hoping more than having any actual indication that this will actually happen, but it doesn't hurt to hold out some hope.

Lol, i crack up when i see posts like this... "already" becoming ancient? AGP has been the standard for what? At least 6 years now... that's eons... time to let it die folks...
