GeForce 7600 widescreen incompatibility??

My friend just bought a gateway desktop and monitor. It is a 21" widescreen HD monitor with DVI. The gateway has a nVidia GeForce 7600GS card with 256 megs. I cannot get the resolution to the 1680x1040 resolution that is native for the monitor. Could it be that the video card just won't support it?? I have tried every driver available, even looked for a monitor driver. Tried VGA and DVI. The other resolutions look terrible on it. Can't get anything to work.

Any ideas???

There is no reason why you shouldnt be able to display 1680x1050. None.

Go into the display properties and change the monitor to just the standard plug and play monitor. Make sure there arent any options to hide resolutions enabled.
