Geforce 7300LE or ATI Radeon X1300 Pro?

I am putting a system together and the two choices for a video card I can make are:

256MB nVidia Geforce 7300LE TurboCache or the 256MB ATI Radeon X1300 Pro

The last video card I bought was a Radeon 9600 and it has 256MB so I really have no idea what I'm looking for or how these two compare to each other.

"LE" means Lousy Edition, I kid you not. All "300" performance number cards from the current two generations are slow parts, intended for office presentations graphics at best. There is an X1300 XT that is moderately decent, and a 7300 GT that is not bad at all, but generally speaking, these are bare minimum video devices. The amount of RAM onboard is of minimal affect on performance at the speeds these slow GPUs run.

"More is better" is just a marketing scam for 512 MB cards with performance numbers in their names lower than "800". If there is going to be any hope of playing any games, you really want to get started from the "600" level performance numbers (the old 9600 was roughly in the "400" class, if that helps any), and upward.

The Radeon is going to be a little better but both are not going to let you game above 800x600 for most recent games. Both are much better than intel's useless integrated graphics though.

An X1400 would be a step up, but still a bit weak for gaming.

Yeah Dave is right. for gaming at least you have to buy a card in maistream series(like Geforce 7600 or Radeon X1600) but with those two i think the Radeon is a bit better.

Out of those two, get the X1300Pro - this doesn't happen to be the Dell system selection thing btw, as it looks very familiar seeing those two cards!

Yeah it's a Dell system. Would I be better off using my Radeon 9600 over these two?

The radeon 9600 is an agp card. The other two are pci-e, and use a different slot. The x1300pro would be about as fast as a 9600, maybe a bit faster.

the 7300LE is a 64-bit card while the x1300pro is 128-bit...

Your Dell system has integrated graphics...right?

You could order a bare system with only the IG, then buy a decent video card on NewEgg for example and snap it in your PCI-E slot. Dell is charging $100 for the X1300 Pro. Not a bargain at all.

For that price, you can have a choice of better-performing X1300XT's or a few 7600GS' or slightly weaker and cheaper 7300GT's

It is important to avoid cards with TurboCache (NVidia) or HyperMemory (ATI) that use part of your system memory. This setup has weak video performance in addition to clogging the already busy system memory. Better have a card wich uses only dedicated onboard memory

Verify which slot you have available in that Dell! Some of them only have a couple of regular PCI slots, ZERO AGP or PCI Express.

If you have PCI Express, 7300GT FTW :) Cheap, decent. Have a friend playing Dawn of War and Titan Quest at modest settings smoothly.

As said by others, 9600 is incompatible, but the X1300Pro is faster annyway than I think even the 9600XT, and has SM3, so i'd pick that out of the two.
