I got my new computer today

AMD 64 bit 3400+ w/ 1 meg cach
2 gigs of pc 3200 ram (2 x 1 gig dimm)
Gainward Geforce 6800GT

I tried running 1600 x 1200 at ultra high quality with 16 x AA and it didn't go too well ;). I was wondering what other geforce 6800 users use in order to get a strong fps, but while not sacrificing too much eyecandy.

What exactly is as? I know AA is antialiasing, but can't quite figure out as.

Anisotropic filtering, you'll want it believe me. And you also don't need that high AA, 4x works fine

Open up the nvidia console on the desktop and unclick application controlled and set the slider to 4x

if I manually set AA/AF there to 4x on both, will that supercede the AA set in doom 3?

My wife plays it 1600x1200 Ultra quality.

It chugs like mad at first with a load of disk activity. It appears that 1GB of RAM is *not* enough to run in this mode. Task manager shows peak of over 1GB when I exited. Drat! Now she is asking about those 1GB DDR2 sticks! z$$$$$ :|

The new Medal of Honor demo is even worse. That ran great on another machine with 6GB but I did notice a peak of 1.3GB which means a 1GB computer would choke too.

Looks like folks in the "1GB club" are going to get their sticks together for the latest games coming out. Pity the Quadros don't run them too well as we have lot of worksatans here with bucketloads of ram.

Cheers!

I run 1600x1200 High, 2xaa, 4xaf. Haven't noticed much of a difference in quality between Ultra and High though.

P4 3.2@ 3.6
1GB RAM

I run 1024x768 Ultra quality, 4x AA and it's silky smooth.
