I have a geforce 6800, amd 2500+ @ stock speeds, and 512 mb pc2700 ddr. I am using drivers 67.66, with the latest motherboard drivers. Nothing is overclocked or overheating (from what I can tell), and I get around 25-30 fps on counter-strike source, and sometimes less on half-life 2. I am playing at high settings/reflect all/4x af @ 1024x768 (going down to 800x600 doesn't help much).

As a side-note, I already did try to overclock my processer and videocard. so don't bother tell me to do that.

I haven't tried the doom 3 demo in awhile, but it played anywhere from 30-40 fps with high settings @ 1024x768

that's probably standard with your cpu ---
amd xp 2500 isnt exactly fast anymore

u can however probably run higher resolutions without any drop in framerate

the benchmarks u see are always run with the fastest cpu (amd fx55)

Do you have AA enabled? The 6800 takes a good hit with AA enabled. It doesn't have the memory bandwith of the GT.

I know you tried OCing, but did you try to unlock the masked pipes?

By the way, the is a forum for this... Video.

I think the system is the bottleneck.

I have a similar system (athlon 2400, 512MB pc2700, asus a7n8x-x) and installed a 6600GT in it at the weekend. I was a bit surprised when it didnt perform as well as i expected. I ran 3dmark 2001 and 2003, HL2 and D3. When I overclocked the video card it didnt make much difference, overclocking the cpu helped a bit but it wasnt stable for me. So I'm looking at buying a faster CPU (barton core, so I dont have to upgrade the motherboard yet)
