I'm planning to buy a temporary card with my Conroe system while I wait for DX10 cards. I'll be buying refurbish of course. If a Geforce 6600 and Radeon X700 were the same price which one should I get? I'm talking about stock 6600 and X700, not GT or XT or anything.

Between a 6600GT and an X700, I would go with the 6600GT. However, since the choice is between a plain 6600 and an X700 the X700 is the better card. The 6600GT and X700 Pro are roughly equal, both are significantly better than the X700, and the X700 is somewhat faster than the plain 6600.

This review has a good comparison between the 6600, 6600GT, X700, and X700 Pro:

I'm not talking about 6600GT, just a regular 6600 and a regular X700. I wanna know which one is faster. I think I'll go with the X700, I can a get a refurbished one for $69.

The X700 card I'm planning to get has 400mhz core and 256mb 800mhz memory. Should it perform like the Gigabyte GV-RX70P256V? They have almost the same specs. The card I'm planning to get is a VisionTek Xtasy RADEON X700.

Update, made a boo boo.
The memory 256mb 1000mhz.

Another update.
I gotta get some sleep! I was wrong about the memory. It's 500mhz. I thought it was before the ddr mhz adding thingy or whatever. LOL

Why won't you just pay the extra for a 6600gt? It's a lot better than the x700 or 6600, and the $20 difference is worth it. Dx10 card won't be here for a few months, so why not go ahead and get a decent card while you wait?

If not, the 6600 can overclock a lot (I think), which may make it better than the x700. Not to mention, you can get them way cheaper than the x700.

couple more options for ya, these are open box from newegg, which means nothing really in terms of quality. just bought an open box HIS x800gto from newegg with the sweet HIS/Artic Cooling cooler for 89.99 for a friend. Came with all accesories, 5 games, and unlocked to 16 pipes right out of the box. Running at 580/1200 up from 400/980 and load temps are 48C :)
Just sayin dont distrust open box, u can find some great deals.

First off a sapphire x800gto. Prolly not gonna unlock but will be a good deal faster than that puny x700 all for 72 bucks plus shipping. x800gto

For slightly more u could get a x800pro VIVO which is guaranteed to unlock to 16 pipes every time via a simple and easy bios flash for 95 plus shipping x800pro

or a 6600gt for 87 plus shipping
6600gt

all of em great cards and choices you should consider.

My 6600GT overclocked like mad (500/1000 to 625/1300). It recently replaced my friends x700 and he reports that Battlefield 2 runs much faster now.
