geforce 6100 and pci-express card?

Currently I have an old barton 2500 with a geforce3 card in it. (I don't game much ocassionally play civ 4 but thats about it). I was looking toupgrade and turn my old socket A system into a mythtv box. I was going to go 754 but was thinking instead of buying a 939 board with a 6100 igp in it and maybe in the future upgradeding to a pci-e graphics card. My question is how will the motherboard perform without using the igg? has anyone done this?
