Geforce 5900 Ultra TV out problem

Trying to output video signal to TV. Graphics card has 9 pin video out socket. I use 4 pin to SCART adapter to connect to TV. Drivers for graphics are up to date and system (XP SP2) works fine. But when I get into nVidia control panel and set card to either dual or clone display and hit "detect display" it reverts settings to single display. What is wrong?
Can anyone help? Oh yeah there is a switch on the scart adapter itself, but the position of the switch does not make a difference. Can someone advise what to do with that?
Thanks in advance...

I checked the scart adapter cable with another source, dell laptop. I am getting B&W picture in this case. But no dual display at all with this geforce. In both cases TV outs have 9 pins and the scart adpater has 4 pins, that however fit into the 9 pin output sockets. Any ideas?
