I picked up a 4600 3 weeks ago. With no tweaks I got on the first page in my class on MadOnion. The only i845D chipset, the rest are i850. I think I'm more interested in trying a Rambus setup than a new card in august.

I still run a VooDoo3 3000 in pIII 450 Katmai. Best 2d I have ever seen. I always use it for surfing/desktop stuff.

Rumor has it that R300 will have hardware support for encoding, maybe something you rippers out there would be interested in.

<< I can play the entire game except that Swamp also @ highest detail and 1600X1200... but that dazm swamp in that game kills it (GF3 Ti200 on Northwood 1.8gig) >>

does the fog look nice for you, it looks like sh!t for me on my gf2gts i love the effect where the rain hits the lightsaber and the little spurts of steam rise.
>>

It looks like crap for me too, but I think the only company that ever did fog good was 3DFX

is there that much of a difference?
is there enough of a reason for people to upgrade from their gf3's and 4's?

i'm still happy with my gts-v
:)

it gets me plenty of kills in cs. :)

It all comes down to what you use your PC for. For many of us, spending $500 a year on Vid card upgrades is not that big of a deal. I have many friends who spend triple that a year on cheeseburgers. It's a freaking hobby people, to each his own.

As far as the argument that 1-2 year old technology is "sufficient" to run games, well what the hell is the point of getting a snazzy new game if you have to run it at a lower resolution with half the effects turned off?

There are many games that will tax current high end systems. I have a P4 at 2.13 gig, 512 megs of DDR, and a TI4400 and I still see MOHAA dip into the 30's on the extremely intensive stuff when running at 1280X1024 (the native rez of my LCD panel), Dungeon Siege will run around 30 fps with this fast setup at that same resolution... I'd hate to see how these games would run on a Geforce 2.

I wonder if this means that BestBuy will have the 4400 or 4600 for $49 after IR and MIR at their day after Thanksgiving Sale? Anyone got a link to this year's ad yet?:D

Any projected shipdates for Corona?

Will there be a new media player with it? Or will the codec be automatically downloaded/installed?

And I hope that there will be a PocketPC version also. :)

So when the GF4 successor comes out (I'll say GF5 as you did, for simplicity), and we are hearing about nVidia's next chip/card that is 5 or 6 months away at that time, will you tell everyone not to buy the GF5 because a better card will be out soon?

Few people get the top of the line every 6 months, and you can't just keep thinking "I'll wait six months and buy the better card instead of upgrading now". Because after 6 months, what ever card is released will be outdone by the card released 6 months after it. You have to upgrade when you feel that it is warranted. I bought a GF4 a month ago, and it increased my graphical performance substantially. I'm glad I didn't wait.

true but i thought i d be nice and make sure people at least knew about it before the shelled out a couple of hundred dollars for a new video card. For me having the corona codec in hardware is worth the wait since i dont upgrade my video card that often.

The GeForce name is dead when the new chip comes out.

I'm not sure what it's called, but I've read somewhere that after GeForce 4 there will be no more GeForces

what do you expect at 1600x1200. me dosent think its really neciarry to run a game at that high a res. i run everything at 1152x864 and my Readon 64 DDR handles it fine anything else is overkill

heh u must have a small monitor, 1600x1200 looks sweet on 19"+.

as for what game will need something fast.. ever see any doom3 screenies? hell even evercrack will look great soon, theres a screenshot in the new time magazine
