with my ati card right now, the drivers suck under win2k... i trust nVidia has a better driver track record. anyone know about this?

thanks

Dunno when its supposed to come out, But Out of all the card manufactors, I'd trust Gainward. Quality 2d, and "Golden Samples" are sweet cards :)

It should be out any time. My list of top graphics card manufacturers are Gainward, Leadtek, and Visiontek. The Ti4200 should be one sweet card. It will be under $200 and have better performance than all other cards except the 4400 (I have this card and it is awesome) and the 4600.

I think that's a bit overboard. The Ti4200 runs at 250 MHz core and 222 MHz DDR (128MB version) or 250MHz DDR (64 MB version). This is effectively 444MHz for the 128MB version and 500MHz for the 64 MB version.

The Ti4600 runs at 300MHz core (sometimes more depending on the manufacturer I believe) and effective 650MHz DDR (325MHz X2).

I do not doubt the Ti4200 will be an excellent overclocker, and maybe hit Ti4400+ speeds (275/550) but hitting Ti4600 speeds is a bit of a stretch. I don't think most Ti4200 cores will go that high, and the memory will not be rated close to 650MHz DDR speeds (although definately higher than 500MHz DDR).

Remember that the Ti4200 is actually a shorter card (in terms of physical length of the card), and doesn't have the extra capacitors that the Ti4400/4600 have.

That said, the Ti4200 will be the price/performance champion without a doubt, and still a great overclocker.

great stuff. thanks guys. i think ill replace my old radeon with this.

does overclocking void warranties? how about the heat issues... my case has poor circulation so i think i might have to get some fans.

Yes, but how do they know you overclocked the card if it fails? Also, very few people here have ever fried CPU/GPU's before; I sure haven't!

It will work without additional fans but it probably won't overclock nearly as well as with more fans. Make sure you don't compromise your whole machine and put in big, noisy fans that drive you nuts. The computer shouldn't be too noisy (unless you don't mind, but I certainly would!). The best bet is to get a couple of 80mm fans that run at around 2500-4000 rpm, somewhere in there and put one in the front and one in the back of the case, with one being "intake" and the other being "exhaust". Basically come up with a direction of air flow in the case.

If you blow the VRAM they can certainly tell what you've been up to.

Overclocking is nice when it works but let's not get too simplistic about it. You can't always overclock something and sometimes things will go wrong.

Well, I'm glad somebody posted this because I was getting very curious about it myself. I really want to get a Ti4200. I'm sick of not having programmable pixel shaders on my GeForce2 GTS.

Watch the Pricewatch and Hot Deals forum. And don't expect to get the card on May 2....
