Geforce 4 Ti4200 Locking Up In 3D mode :(

I've been using my Ti4200 (64mb ddr version) for almost a year now with no problems. I haven't really played any 3d games for the past month and when I tried loading a game the other day it locked up.

I ignored it, hit the reset button, and went on with my day. Well today I tried to play another game and every 3D game I play locks up my pc. I've updated to the newest detonator drivers (44.03) and updated to dx 9.0a (from 9.0)

It still locks up every time... I have to hit the reset button on my computer...

Does anyone have any advice?

My system is as follows:

AMD XP 2100+
ECS K7S5A
512 DDR
Ge4 Ti4200 64mb
SBLive 5.1
Windows XP Pro SP1

PS After installing the newest drivers, it doesn't IMMEDIATELY lock up... The video gets all distorted and ugly, then it locks up.... :(

You said it locked up before installing new drivers ? I would say sounds like the card has gone faulty, you could try the card in another PC and see if it works ok.

Did you install latest SiS AGP driver as well for your board? You could try Driver Cleaner 1.5 for removing the nvidia driver and reinstall the 44.03 or a different version again.

No I haven't tried installing the newest SIS AGP drivers. I will try that though.

Downloading that driver cleaner program right now. I hope something works :(

I plan on bringing the card to a friend's house and will try it in her pc. She has a geforce 4 ti4200 too but it's the 128 meg version. She NEVER uses 3d applications so if 3d doesn't work in it on hers, I might see if she will swap hers for mine. *dunno*

I'm getting withdrawals from my games :(

Printscreen button, no0b. :p The whole screen looks blurry.

Try underclocking it aggressively (like 1/2 or 3/4 speeds) on both core and memory. I think you've got a serious heat issue and have already done permanent damage. Take the side off your case and place a finger on your gF4's memory and heatsink. If you burn yourself on either, it's probably toast.

Either way, try an RMA.

if the pc locks up how do you expect me to even use clipboard features much less paste it in photoshop to create a jpg for you no0b :homer doh slap:

anyways i tried it on my friend's computer and it does the same thing... tried calling pny to rma but they said i need a receipt which i don't have (bought it from best buy with cash and they can't pull up the receipt cuz it's cash) so i'm kinda fuxored. i'll try underclocking it. maybe that will work until i can afford a new one

Looks like I was right about it being a bad card :( ,sorry to hear that you don`t have the receipt for your card as well, eitherway not much you can do now until you get a replacement video card of some sort.

1) Start program
2) Hit Printscreen
3) ALT-F4
4) Paste into Paint
5) Save

or is it really that bad that you can't even hit three keys?

Thanks, that tells me so much about how long he can run a 3D app for without crashing.

Sounds like a heat issue. It is gets ugly then locks that would be my guess. Try taking the side of your case off and see if that helps. I dont know why you should need the reciept to get it RMAd. I had my Palit GF4 Ti4200 go bad and they asked for the invoice number and date, neither of which I had and they still sent me an RMA number. I think your best bet may be to call up PNY and give em hell. If it is within warranty I would call them and talk to someone. Dont be rude, but ask to speak to someone in charge. Most companies want to keep customers happy and if you are resonable with them they would be resonable in return.
good luck,
