Geforce 4.. Ti4200/4400/4600...

I am a new member of the anandtech forums, second post, first inquiry

Anyway, to the point.
I am looking at the new video cards from nVidia.

The Geforce 4 Ti4200 looks like it is a mad card for the price, but do you think the extra money is worth it for the 4400? The 4600 is far far far to expensive, so thats not even an option.

Can someone please give me some URL's to some benchmarks?

go to the Anandtech main page, and read the Radeon 9000 review. Its got benchmarks in it with the nvidia cards. Personally, if you must get a card now, get a Ti4200....if you must get nvidia. Don't count out the Radeon 8500. If your REALLY set on nvidia, wait a little, nvidia will respond somehow to the 9700, at the least with price cuts.

Do gainward make good cards? Down here in AUS, they seem to be cheaper than the Asus/Leadtek alternatives.

EDIT: The Ti4200 is available in 64mb and 128mb flavours. Which one is better value? Is it worth going for the 128mb version over the 64?

The Ti4200 would suit you well but would be a bad purchase since the new ATi Radeon 9700 was just announced. The prices of the Ti4400 and Ti4600 are going to plummit and you would be able to snatch quite a deal in the next few months.

I say wait. But that's just me. If I were you, a GF4 MX would hold me off for a few months, but it's your choice. If you wan't that Ti4200, go crazy

My friend just bought one the other day, it's the shiznit. And if you are lucky you can overclock it to Ti4400-Ti4600 levels at 50-200 less than the other cards. And 128 Megs will be necessary for the games of the future. 64 Megs can't quite cut it.

Can't wait to upgrade to a Radeon 9500 tho

I just put that quote up there because I find it amazing. Amazingly stupid that is. Simply put, the 128 mb ti4200 isn't a "piece of crap." Anyway, I think the 128 mb version of the ti4200 is an excellent choice. Although the memory is clocked a little slower than the 64 mb version, a little overclocking can easily fix that. Plus, you'll be better off in the long run with the extra memory (think Doom 3 here). It might be worth it to wait for the 4400/4600 cards to drop so you can save yourself some money. Then again, who really knows how soon that will happen. Also, the 4400/4600 really separate themselves from the 4200 only when the resolution is 1280x1024+. With aa on the gap really starts to widen. Even with the 4200, you should be fine at high res with some aa. If you want to buy now, I'd go with the 4200. You can wait, but remember theres always something else to wait for.
