I have a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 and a Gygabyte 7VAXP mothereboard. I have run some FutureMark 2001 tests and I am getting some rediculously low results. I get about 6000 points, which is bellow what people are getting with a Geforce 3 Ti200. I have checked my graphics settings and I realized that the card is running in AGP 2X! It used to run in AGP 4X, but since then I have reinstalled Win XP, new drivers etc. and now I have no idea how to make it run in AGP 4X.

Can anyone tell me how to change the settings and make it run in AGP 4X? Thank you for your help.

Did you overclock? If yes - then there u go. But still, the 3dmarks would be higher. Go into the BIOS and verify that its in 4x (or 8x) mode. Then, under windows, run dxdiag.exe and make sure the agp acceleration is enabled.

I did not find any options for AGP speed in the BIOS. I saw that the speed is 33/66Mhz (is that AGP 4X and 8X?) for the PCI/AGP bus but it does not allow me to modify it. I loaded the optimized defaults and rebooted. Now the card runs in AGP 4X in Windows and the problem is fixed. I get about 10 000 in 3dMark 2001 so it is working normally. It is weird that it was running in AGP 2x since this motherboard is not even supposed to support it.

Thanks for the help.

Yeah, that is what I though too. But in the instruction booklet it says that there are problem when using an AGP 2x card and advises against it. My Geforce 4 is AGP 4X so that is not my problem.

Is there a way to edit the messages once they have been posted? I make stupid mistakes sometimes that I want to correct.

You do have an "edit" button in the bottom right corner, just go to your last post and click on the "edit" button ;).

Your board is a VIA KT400 right,so did you try reinstalling the latest VIA AGP driver in turbo mode?

Aha, I needed to be logged in. I always reach the forum through the email notification and it does not show an edit button (cause I'm not logged in). I was expecting a feature like this :)

I will try installing the turbo Hyperion driver you speak of. Is there a performance increase? I really don't see the big deal with mobos. I mean even though the Nforce 2 is faster than the Kt400a wich is faster than the Kt400 the differences are so small (like 1-2 %).

I worry more about my graphics card and CPU performance.

Installing the Via AGP driver will ensure your PC will be able to run at best possible speed/stability,XP has native VIA support but the built-in drivers are getting old now, so installing the latest drivers especially for newer boards like KT400 will ensure it has the latest AGP/INF files for your board, which will allow it to perform at its peak.

Latest VIA HYPERION 4.47 drivers here .
