Maybe someone can give me a hand with this, before I give up and send this MoFo MoBo back!!!

Previously I had an A7M266 MoBo and my GeForce 4Ti 4600 scored 10,175 3D marks. This I thought was low compared to some other scores I saw, but everything worked nicely. I'm running the same 2000+ processor, bumped up to 1.83 ghtz and my 3D marks are terrible with this new board. I can't figure out why my motherboard won't assign IRQ 11 to mt Vidya card, and leave it by itself. Really smart bios to make the IDE controller and the video card SHARE and IRQ. Not to mention the 3 other things on 11. Even when I set up in Standard PC mode, and remeved EVERYTHING from my box, still seeing 3D marks around 7300. Can anybody tell me whats choking me down, my 4x AGP MoBo did better than my 8x, is this really possible. I've been through everything in the BIOS, and even e-mailed support@asus.com, it's ben a week and I've gotten NO response. I need to figure this out before I just return the thing. I'm halfway thinking of exchanging it for the A7V8X. Anyway, thanks in advance!!

1. Have you tried running 3dmark @ default cpu settings?

2. Do you have the correct NVidia chipset drivers installed?

3. Try setting your BIOS to AGP 4x and se what happens.

4. Are you running 2 sticks of RAM to get dual-channel mode?

5. If not, is it set in the BIOS as just having 1 stick?

6. CPU overheating?

P.S. Welcome to AT.

3d mark scores are 7027, my bios says 8x is enabled, and I can't change it. Yes I have the correct Nforce and NVidia drivers... These are the first things I checked when I noticed the problem. Thanks tho!

First of all, read this and stop worrying about the IRQ, it's not the issue: Why are all my devices using one IRQ in Win2K or WinXP? :)

Secondly, tell us all about your computer: BIOS revision of the board, hardware and software, DirectX version, Windows service pack level if you know it, and power supply unit brand/model for good measure.

Sorry guys... Here is the info....

AMD Athlon 2000+
Asus A7N8X
550 Watt Power Supply (CompUSA)
Bios Rev. 1002 E
256 Megs PC2100 DDR Ram
Windows XP sp1

I reloaded Windows XP with my A7M266 MoBo and ran 3D Mark 2001 and scored 10770, with the FSB bumped up to 136.

With the FSB bumped up to 144 with the A7N8X and 3D Mark 2001, and all the same hardware I scored 7024 and saw frame rates as low as 16 FPS.

Both tests were run with FRESH installs of Windows XP. Set up in the Standard PC mode.

Other hardware... USR 56K Fax Modem, Soundblaster Audigy Platinum, Linksys 10\100 ethernet adapter, and SIIG 66\100\133 ATA adapter.... My Plextor 40x CDR-W is not writing up to speed either, the cache fluxuates WAY more than on the A7M 266, and yes, I have the latest ASPI drivers from Adeptec.

Do you need any other info? Thanks for the reply!

One more thing, I didn't mention.... when I did the last install of XP on the A7N8X, I removed the Ehternet, IDE controller card, and Modem.... the only pci port I'm using is 4, and my AGP slot.

Have you installed the nForce unified driver pack from nVidia yet? Could be worth a try. Also, Insane3D gave detailed instructions on how to pick the WHQL-certified drivers from within the nVidia UDP: thread

Make sure your IDE devices are running in Ultra DMA mode. It sounds like you are still running PIO mode..

:)

I am able to get DMA mode 2 on both channels. I had my CDR-W set up on Primary IDE as Master and DVD on secondary as Master, then swaped them.. The DVD stays in DMA 2 and the CDR-W stays in PIO mode.

CDR-W Plextor 40x12x40
DVD BENQ

When I try to update the IDE drivers to the unified, my machine will not boot either.
