Geforce 4 + motherboard = random crashes?

I'm at wits end -- trying to use a Visiontek Geforce 4 TI 4600 with a 1ghz dual P3 motherboard (aopen DX34Plus pulled from an SGI 330 workstation).

The system shuts down at random or crashes with an exception during simple things like web browsing, as well as any time I try to run 3DMark, the nvidia "squid" demo, etc. However, some of the simpler nvidia demos run just fine.

I'm running Win2k and have tried various versions of the detonator drivers, along with the latest VIA 4in1, bios updates etc, to no avail. No other card is sharing the same IRQ. My power supply is 600W (server board), which should be more than adaquate.

Is there anything else I can try? If not, are there any dual p3 boards with 133mhz bus proven to run well with the geforce 4?

Thanks very much,
At Wits End
