GeForce 310 DDR3 HDMI out

I ordered an Inspiron 570 and it comes with an GeForce 310 card. The graphics card does not have HDMI out, but the desktop has HDMI.

Let's say I connect my HDTV thru the HDMI port, would it still use the graphics card for the video processing? or it would only work if I connect to any of the ports available on the card?

If the motherboard has integrated HDMI output, but you have a discrete card installed, then it will shut off the motherboard's video outputs, and you are stuck with what is on the video card. If it doesn't have HDMI, then your choices are either a DVI-HDMI adaptor or cable, or to remove the discrete video card and go back to the onboard.

so the mobo hdmi out gets disabled automatically if an discrete video card is connected?

Yes. The HD 4200 on that mobo is not very strong at all, either. It will struggle rendering 1080p video content.

What you could do is get a dvi-hdmi cable (from Monoprice.com for $3).

/Oh, that card has a display port as well, so you could get also get a display port-hdmi cable also

Thats not even close to true. I am using the onboard 4200 for my 1080p projector and it works great. The 4200 has UVD2 built in and works great.

For gaming its weak, but not video.

UVD 2
The UVD saw a refresh with the release of the Radeon HD 4000 series products. The UVD 2 features full bitstream decoding of H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, VC-1, as well as MPEG2 video streams, and in addition it also supports dual video stream decoding and Picture-in-Picture mode. This makes UVD2 full BD-Live compliant.

OK, just got the PC this evening. The graphics card does have a HDMI out and the mobo HMDI out is disabled.

Tried to play an 1080p video and the CPU usage is around 40%, is that normal?

The graphics (desktop performance for windows aero is only 4.9) is that ok? updated the geforce g310 latest driver from the nvdia website and have updated the bios also.

any thoughts to improve the performance ?

Is this with the Athlon ][ X2 240 CPU?

If so, then your CPU usuage could possibly be that high even with hardware acceleration.

How are you trying to watch 1080P video? Is this Flash video on Youtube?

It makes a big difference which software you use. For instance, watching the Avatar trailer in .MOV format with Windows Media Player is a slideshow but with the actual Apple Quicktime player it plays just great.

Try starting the computer with the HDMI on the motherboard connected. If it's not showing anything on screen, go back to the HDMI on the Geforce 310 and see if you can access the BIOS to change which GPU handles output. It may even be possible to output the 4200's visuals through the Geforce 310's HDMI. I know the MSI mobo (which has a 4200 IGP) I have in my desktop allows for this through the graphics card. Why'd you even get the Geforce 310?

Yes my processor is Athlon II X2 240 and my video card is geforce g310. I tried to play a 1080p using VLC player and the file is stored on the PC's HDD.
