GeForce 3 Ultra Speculation

Don't bet on a true GF3 Ultra any time soon. Most GF3s have 3.8 ns DDR RAM, and an Ultra would require something like 3 ns, which won't be readily available for some time. However, in light of the dual channel DDR on the nForce, I predict nvidia will release the ultra with regular 3.8 ns ram, but in a dual channel config, doubling theoretical bandwidth. Maybe 128 megs of DDR, but expect that to bring a tidy sum. Any other theories?

that stuff must be helluva expensive right now. i dunno if i can afford 512MB of that 🙂

I'v been watching memory change and mostly just get faster over the years, and most of the change has been in Video cards. What i wana know is, why havent we seen anything going on with computer memory?, i'v never seen a 3.8ns stick of SDRAM, or a 5.5 for that matter?. Also, why arent Intel and AMD doing anything about FSB speeds?, 133mhz fsb with a 1.4ghz CPU seems a little odd, dont you think?, system performance could be improved DRAMATICLY couldent it?

I doubt that nvdia could double the memory path from 128bit to 256bit that would be very expensive to manufacturer, as it currently uses 4 crossbar memory controller it could realistically add another 2.

How much of a performance increase would you see if nvidia dropped a second chip on the geforce3 ultra? My guess is that there would be some increase, but the memory will still be bottleneck. But if I had the money right now and teh geforce3 ultra had two chips like the V5500 (maybe 128 megs of 3 ns ram as well), wow, it would be mine in a second!
