Geforce 3 ti200 to a Geforce4 ti4400??

I enjoy playing all types of games but my life changed when I went from a Voodoo 5500 to a geforce 3 ti200. Loved it. Then I discovered AA in Jedi Outcast which again changed my life. I am a fan. One prob: I love playing at high resolutions (like 1600x1200) so...should I upgrade to the ti4400 since I like and want to use AA?? Or should I just hold my horses until the new Ati RV30 comes out? I know you people are the best...so please help me out!! 🙂 Thanks in advance.

You'll see a large performance difference between the two cards and since no-one really knows when the R300 will arrive, it's largely pointless waiting for it. Go for it.

Get the GF4 and sell it when something better is there. That way, you have the best of the two worlds.

If you like AA then you'll see a big difference. But at 1600*1200 its hardly necessary IMO.

Your CPU will have a lot to do with this in Jedi Outcast.

Take a look at the benchmarks in Anand's sub $200 video roundup: CPU Scaling under Jedi Outcast

As you can see, the GF4 4200 is neck and neck with the GF3 ti200, and they both increase dramatically with a faster CPU.

Running at 1600 resolution will probably increase the gap between the cards, so I would think you would see a little more of an improvement than this graph indicates (since it's running at only 1024x768). But I would still hope the point is well taken - Jedi Outcast is more CPU limited than most games, and will not show the dramatic improvement you might be hoping for.

Good luck.

(PS - I know you're comparing a GF4 4400 to a GF3 ti200, but I would think the GF4 4200 is close enough to make the point)

Thanks for all of your help and I think I am going to go for the 4400...now the question is, which one? I was checking out Newegg and the Chaintech "Special Edition" GT-41 is $240 (only 10-15 more than the normal edition). Is this a good card or am I just buying into the "it looks fast so it must be fast" idea? I read a review on its older bro (Special edition ti4600) and they liked it but...sigh. I really hope these Video Card companies know what they are doing to us. Last but not least, I like playing games at high resolutions and high refresh rates...any idea which 4400 has the best? Thanks again.
