Which one should I get for my new system and why? The Ti200 is about $30 more then the GF4.
GAINWARD/CARDEXPERT GeForce 3 Ti200 64MB (NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200 GPU), Power Pack Golden Sample, 4ns 64MB DDR. TV-Out. Retail Box. Overclocking enhanced performance mode. Model#: GF3TI200 TI450...OR...GAINWARD/CARDEXPERT GeForce 4 MX440 (NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440 GPU), PowerPack GODEN SAMPLE( OVER-CLOCKING), 4ns, 64MB DDR. TV-Out. Retail Box. Model#: GF4 MX440 Pro/600 TV....thanks

GeFroce4 MX is crap.. as far as I know, it is based on the GeForce2 technology. The Gainward G3 ti200 is overclocked and warranted OC's out of the box, so it is better than your average ti 200. It also has faster RAM.

I would get the Gainward GeForce 3 ti200 over the GeForce4 MX based on what I know about it.

The Radeon 8500 is also a good choice .. and I have seen those as low as $139 after rebate...

The Geforce 4 MX is NOT based on GF2 technology, it is based on GF4 technology, it has the same memory architecture and core, except that there are a few things missing, such as pixel shaders and stuff. I would still go with the geforce3 ti200 though

Well, it really depends on your perspective. The main differences between the GF3/GF4 and GF2, is 1. The Vertex/Pixel Shaders 2. Quincex AA (or Accuview AA for GF4) 3. LMA II, and the GF4MX lacks number 1, but you are correct that it does have Quincex AA and LMA II (not to mention nView as well). But, the other arguement though for that the GF4MX is really more of a GF2MX is that it only has 2 Pixel Pipelines. So, it really depends on your Perspective.

But, anyway. I too say go for the GF3 Ti200.

You know what is interesting? I happen to have an nForce based system, and recently had a chance to install new drivers. Curiously enough, they include a lot of files with names starting with nv4.

DOOD! STAY AWAY FROM THE GF4MX! Really, its crap. Every review everywhere says its crap. I had one for a day, ran all sorts of tests and played all sorts of games and you know what? It ran a fraction faster than my old trusty Radeon 64ddr vivo. I returned it and got a GF3 Ti200 for roughly the same price but got a 20 buck rebate and a free 128 meg of pc133 ram. And you know what? The same tests and games played at least 50% better/faster than the GF4. The sales clerk asked me why every single GF4 MX440 that the store sold all got returned!

All of the GF4 Mx versions, even the MX 460 are not worth paying the price of a new card when they're so crippled. If you have to go GF4, go TI4200/4400, but for now, your best bet is to go with the GF3 Ti200 if you must go with nVidia. If not, take a serious look at the Radeon 8500 cause it's a great deal right now.
