I have an Nvidia OEM Geforce 3 ti 200. I was looking to put a chrystal orb 3 on it, but I couldn't remove the heatsink. Its that black passive heatsink. my geforce 3 ti 200 If you look at the second card picture on that page, that is my geforce 3 ti 200. How should I remove that heatsink?

is the thing connected by spring pins? If so, look on the back of the card behind the GPU and see if there are any plastic brackets portruding around it. If so, use some pliers to press the hooks on the brackets together and push out. If not, then that sucker is probably epoxied on the chip, which means you either freeze it in a plastic bag and pry it off CAREFULLY with a credit card spacer and a eyeglass screwdriver (flat) or a razor, or something else which I can't remember... probably had something to do with epoxy removing solvents... Either method has a high chance of wrecking your card so don't try it unless you know what you are doing...

If you are not sure about removing the heatsink you can just get a small 40mm fan and attach it directly to the existing heatsink and you will probably have as good or better performance than the Crystal Orb. If you look around you can usually find one of these little fans for under 5 bucks. If the existing HS is epoxied on it will have good heat transfer characteristics already and the fan addition will save you alot of trouble and money.

Heres some tips for taking off video card HS`s.

If there are some clips on the rear of the card, press the clips in, and the HS will come loose
If it does`nt come loose, then its using some sort of epoxy and/or clips.
To remove the HS if it has epoxy, either
1) Place card in anti static bag, seal up well, and place in a freezer. Leave for an hour, remove card from freezer/anti static bag, and pull the HS. It should then come off.
2) Place a strong, flat piece of material, near the edge of the HS(like a credit card), then, using the material as protection for the card, lever the HS off using a strong object(such as a blunt knike). Level two corners till its visiably lifted off the core. Then pull the HS off.

Hope this helps.
