GeForce 3 or wait for GeForce 3 Ultra / Pro?

I'm currently running a T-bird 1.2Ghz, and a GeForce 2 GTS 32mb.

I've been doing a bit of work and i've got some money saved up.
I have more than enough to afford a Geforce 3, but would it be more advisable to wait for the next Geforce and go for that?
I know it will probably launch at £400 or whatever, but if it was good enough i'd probably get it as long as it lasts me a long time.

So is it worth the wait?
Will i see a decent performance increase over my GTS with a standard GF3?

R200 sounds like its already in full production - it would be worth looking for that.

It would seem at R200 is going to have at least the same feature set as GF3, but with the added benefit of SMARTSHADERS (which GF3 doesn't quite go to).

I'd at least take a look at that before making any decisions.

At the moment the Geforce3 is very expensive and quite frankly no games support it. In my opinion this makes it a bad investment as its ludicrously overpriced. Unless your pockets are gold lined I would wait and see what ATI`s R200 has to offer first.

And whats wrong with your Geforce2 gts anyway?

what do you consider over-priced?

There should be four new boards showing up in the next four months. Three of them at the very least should be better then the GF3 which will likely do two things, leave options of better then GF3 class hardware and drive down the price of the GF3.

That classic question "Should I wait?" In this day and age there is always going to be something right around the corner better.

What?

He's right in saying that it's rather expensive compared to the competition, and it's DX8 features arent exactly being utilized much.
It is the fastest card available, and it's FSAA performance is amazing though, but what he said was correct.

bah.. the radeon 64 w/o vivo was $300 6 months ago; the radeon 32 DDR was $200. $300 if a GF3 is quite within reason.

that's not to say that there's not better values to be had, but that hardly makes the gf3 'overpriced'.

Exactly. The Voodoo5 5500 and Radeon VIVO debuted at $299. The GeForce 2 Ultra was around the $500 mark. Looking at those prices, the Gainward GeForce 3 VIVO for ~$350 is a pretty good deal if you ask me. Sure the price will come down but a video card that has a DVI connection and VIVO and can do FSAA VERY nicely, is priced VERY well at ~$350.
